Cover Versions (worse than the original)

One of the achingly dull Core women absolutely BUTCHERED The Blue Nile classic "Downtown Lights".

30 years and no parole, for that

Possibly mentioned, but this god awful warbling ...

And here's how it should be done ...

Written by Badfinger, and was an LP track that Nilsson wanted to cover, they said Ok, and said they were astonished
when they heard his version. Incidentally, the two founder members both committed suicide after being ripped off by a chiselling
Yank manager.
Oh and Carey's version was utter shite.

Yes the song was considered cursed when Harry Nilssen passed away at an early age. Even Chris de Burgh's version was better, he described Carey's effort as utter shite (he probably used nicer words). If she only stopped warbling she'd have a decent voice.

Under the Bridge by that girl band, All Saints was it? Completely ripped out the feeling and emotion out of that song.

You can hear the loneliness and pain in the RHCP version. Written out of pain, drugs and hopelessness, from deeply personal experience. You can't just cover that, pout and hope for the best.

And on the other hand, RHCP's cover version of Love Roller Coaster (the Ohio Players) is better than the original, and IMO (sorry) better than most everything RHCP did. Coming from a guy who saw them open for the Minutemen or Black Flag (or someone -- I might have been hammered) in the mid-80s.
