was saying on here the other day a lot of my mates have been unwell hot flushes etc and me included, quite possible we have had it and passed it on unknown, as the common flu has a death rate i wonder if you have a bad dose of flu and get this at the same time then your chaces of death are higher,something thats not been mentioned on the TV

The Chinese economy grows at 7% a year so they tell us. The problem is there is no one to confirm this. It’s long been suspected that the figures might not be accurate. I don’t trust their numbers. It’s inconceivable to me that during those early weeks of inactivity there are still only 400 or so confirmed cases in Beijing. Time will tell if they really have got on top of it by shutting everything down but I am not convinced by these numbers.

when the virus figures are in the 50s and double to 100 in a couple of days then again 2 days later it doesnt really raise an eybrow, a bit like compounded interest on a loan, as soon as it gets to 1k then 2k and 4k,8k then im pretty sure mass panic will set in with people keeping away from work without being infected simply to protect themselves,,panic buying is happening now, i was at morrissons this afternoon and checking out what people had in their trollys, some with all dried food others with only tins etc,,my mrs works at ASDA and i told her last night when it gets bad to simply go sick and stay away which is what 90% of them will do,so we will end up with stocked supermarkets that cant open because no staff will work

While I do agree the reporting in Italy is likely to be a bit more reliable than the reporting from China (and more indicative of the trends that can be expected in the UK), I don’t think there is any evidence for that high of a mortality rate just yet.

As it is, the estimated mortality rate ranges are concerning enough, anyway.

And, unfortunately, with the virus’ estimated R0, short of an authoritarian lockdown like China implemented (which is never going to happen with us), exponential growth was always on the cards.

Now all we can do is properly prepare, practice good hygiene, lookout for each other’s wellbeing, follow reputable guidance, and keep laughing.

My motto has always been: prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and expect something in between.

What about those of us who bought loads of fresh chicken and pork to freeze.

Does she regularly compare the percentage of fresh food to tin/dried

Our Asda rarely has fresh herrings so i bought a can, was i panic buying?

BTW Asda had sold out of Allison’s strong white flour and i went in yesterday and today so i could bake bread during the rioting rather than rely on a supply. I’ll have to go back in the morning to recheck
 
If interested, my company (a little Wall Street type operation) has cancelled all conferences, all investor meetings, all internal meetings requiring travel until mid-April. All Asia travel suspended indefinitely. All international travel requires management approval, and even domestic travel is being highly discouraged. And I/we travel for a living.

We're holing up out here.
