The country is in lockdown, so what would be the point of stopping people coming here? They aren’t going to be spreading the virus even if they have it.

Of course they are. They have to stay somewhere and wherever they stay they will come into contact with people. If they have it they will pass it on and it will spread. I have no idea who or why anyone is flying here unless as someone said they are stranded holidaymakers or expats returning home.

You can’t stop British people returning home, they have a right to be here, and they will be going into immediate lockdown. These people aren’t tourists.

We have banned all travel, in and out.

Only Australian citizens are permitted to enter and on arrival they must quarantine in a hotel for 14 days.

Our biggest fiasco was from all the cruise ships but after a few weeks of nonsense we sorted it out.

We have just been advised that we have atleast another 4 weeks of lockdown and look like introducing some sort of contact tracing app when restrictions could be lifted.

That’s not true. My mate flew in from Peru this morning!

I think the world is realising we are fucked for a good while yet. Unless a drug or mixture of drugs fight the virus and beat it instead of ending up on a ventilator and/or a vaccine is created then this is our new reality. The only other hope is if people who have had it have some form of immunity and can get back to work. That depends of course on a test that works. Pretty depressing at the moment.

We aren’t in lockdown, we just have some restrictions in place.

There are millions of people out and about: working, shopping, exercising, walking dogs.

Any company - big or small - who develops something that works will license manufacturing out. I don't think there won't be any need for hoping - the backlash from not doing so would see to that.
Backlash is overrated , how many were fingered after the contaminated blood scandal..noone, how many carried the can for the banks meltdown, the aluminium chloride in drinking water..no one, the deaths from dirty hospitals by sepsis 40,000 per annum which began with "outsourcing," no one, thalidomide no one, Bhopal no one, carriage doors on trains opening on their own, no one. Big pharma does not do "backlash", they have governments on their side, coroners and judges. When billions are involved ethics, morals, karma dont even exist or ever likely to

But like in other countries they should be checked upon arrival, asked a series of questions and be enforced to isolate for 14 days whether they have symptoms or not. We’ve just “advised” people to isolate if they have symptoms and informing them who to report symptoms to.

they don’t. Literally 5 weeks ago the government gave a clear announcement that all uk citizens of the uk should return home immediately . If people have not followed that advice 5 weeks later then they can’t expect to just breeze into the country.

if there are uk citizens who decided not to return to the uk when they were expressly told to do so then The least they can expect on their return is 14 days In Quarantine before being allowed into the country.

We are all making sacrifices during this time which is hard. . We are bound to be pissed off if we are forced to do this to prevent the spread , whereas people can just waltz into the country with no checks every single day .

it’s not just that the uk government have continued to allow these flights. It’s also the fact that anyone coming in has no health checks. Not even their temperature taken. It’s been like that throughout.

The border and flight policy of the UK government during this crisis has been the single biggest disgrace of all their Covid actions and they should be called out on it.

How do you know they will go into immediate lockdown? They should of course but as its kinda self policed there's no guarantees that they will. Plus, it's the fucking flimsiest lockdown in the first place. Herd immunity without admitting it.

And yet the UK has a burgeoning biotech sector. They simply aren't seeking to fully suppress the virus, and have said so.

We have to look to outside the UK for hope and then hope the UK gets bounced into action. There are 5 and 10 minute tests now. The UK even has its own private pharmaceutical companies producing these products. Can you imagine the effect they would have in the care homes. Emirates does a 10 minute blood test on its passengers. The UK government claims to care about its old.
It does seem strange as you say almost deliberate reluctance to act sensibly if lives are to be saved.
Perhaps Mr Cummins is taking the opportunity to save as much state pension money as possible.

The move follows calls for the government to investigate the number of deaths of people from the BAME community and those working for the NHS, during the coronavirus pandemic

Sky News analysis found that out of the 54 frontline health and social care workers in England and Wales that have died because of COVID-19, 70% of them were black or from an ethnic minority

The americans are finding the same

It's the strangest lockdown ever isn't it? Flights coming in and leaving, the streets full of people enjoying the weather.

80 more deaths in hospitals in Scotland, total now 779 - Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Says lockdown must be in place for "at least another three weeks
—------------------------

The death rate for men with coronavirus was twice as high as that of women in England and Wales in March, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The mortality rate for men was 97.5 deaths per 100,000 population, while for women it was 46.6 deaths.

So men and black or ethnic minority are two things we are learning about this virus

Spain's death toll rises 551 - from 18,579 to 19,130.
Wednesday's death figure was 523, and 567 on Tuesday. Thst's well below a peak of 950 reached on 2 April

"In the past 10 days, the number of cases reported in Europe has nearly doubled to close to 1 million," Hans Kluge told reporters in an online briefing.
It means about 50% of the global burden of COVID-19 is in Europe, Mr Kluge said, adding that 84,000 people in Europe had died.
