COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I'm sure this has been commented upon before and that said I am staggered it's taken me so long to post it here...

But isn't everyone completely and utterly sick to death of EVERYTHING on the news and current affairs programs being about Coronavirus. You wake up, put BBC Breakfast or whatever else on, and right from the off, they are at. Coronavirus this, COVID-19 that, report from hospital X, report from care home Y, interview with person who nearly died, clapping for the plumbers and electrical wholesalers or whoever else we need to clap for today, and then repeat from step one.

And this goes on all day, every day, 7 days a week.

It's fucking tiresome and that's an understatement. We know all about this stuff already, apart from what's actually NEW. How about the media just report on some actual NEWS and give it fucking rest on the monotonous, relentless same old same old. We've heard it already and frankly are sick to death of hearing about it.

Per The Hill

“BREAKING: The Food and Drug Administration said that two anti-malaria medications highly touted by President Trump as potential coronavirus treatments should not be taken outside a hospital or clinical trial because of the risk of severe heart problems.

The rare warning comes after the FDA received numerous reports about serious cardiac events and death in patients with COVID-19 receiving hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, either alone or combined with an antibiotic.”

Not sure Boris will have a short back and sides when he returns and Raab hasn't got much left

Careful!
That's from an Italian study I linked some days ago. The report did not draw that conclusion. In fact it stated that the virus was only detectable in clam conditions. So It can move but not far and is only active for time dependant on temperature and humidity.
There are many reports like this. It's not just one. AIr conditioning in hospital, corridors in high density housing. The list goes on.

spot on. I have started watching pimp my ride in the mornings it’s that dull the news

example, there was that nut job who started shooting from his balcony the other day. Barely covered in the news .

Given the number of channels available would be easy for them to have a dedicated Covid channel and leave the normal channels alone

Questions

Booking tests online is busy 16,000 so far, site down now back, (like booking grocery shopping, slots become available)

People flouting the rules? at the start it was considered when and for how long people would comply, must encourage people to continue

Transport questions and funding

People still flying in and not being tested, why not ? British nationals coming back, countries who have locked down have not done any better than we have, the reliability of screening is not really good, people can have high temperature for many reasons but it is always under review

You have raised expectations too high on testing ? We made a clear pledge on numbers of tests we wanted to get done, capacity and demand is there

We only want those who have symptom or family members with symptoms, public have to be responsible and not waste tests

Hard for key workers to get to tests ? usual waffle on home tests etc

Building a test system from scratch so will take time

Self administered tests, are they reliable, what is the failure rate ? Tests can fail for many reasons, the pilot tests had patient and heathcare taking tests side by side and it was very similar

Dictated from the tv briefing

Ha message to trump about the disinfectant injections ? We would say to everyone not to inject anything, only properly tested and safe treatments should be used

I would have said don't be a twat !

Not a game changer then, unless you take it to end the game.

Nothing wrong with injecting disinfectant. After a night on a the bleach a quick hit of disinfectant in the veins makes me feel so relaxed .

and just to wrap this up from my side here is a survey about healthcare workers deaths during covid.

Matches the non-healthcare worker rates. Hence no extra risk.

I am loth to engage with you on this but there are two obvious issues with this study that are not explained and need to be.

1) The deaths in the general population are heavily weighted to people 75 and over. Just over half of all deaths in the UK are in this age bracket. Yet this age bracket is absent from the health workers. Therefore for a valid comparison the death rate of the health workers should be compared to the population in the same age range. An expected result for an equal risk would be half as many deaths in the health worker propulation compared to the full national population, (and the same as for the population under 75).

2) About 60% of deaths in the general population are men, even though more women have been confirmed as infected. In the health worker group women account for 52% of deaths. Where are the "missing" male deaths in the healthcare population and why is the ratio not the same, if the risk is the same? If the female/male ratio in the healthworker population is higher than the general population then the extrapoleted figure, for a f/m population the same as the national population, would be higher by about 20%.

So what the data actually says is that there is an increased risk for health workers of between 20% and 50%.

Edit: between 20% and 100% - as twice as many are dying as the under 75s in the general poluation.
