There is evidence face coverings have a "weak but positive effect" in reducing transmission of the coronavirus, Downing Street has said,A spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said ministers are still considering what guidance to issue to the public during the COVID-19 lockdown

I think it is more behavioural as in giving people confidence than anything else
Weak? My arse. Wearing cloth over your face stops 99% of all droplets you produce going anywhere to infect others in airborne aerosols or onto surfaces - the later being the main method of transmission.

You just didn’t want them to get there did you?

No quite the opposite, i am desperate for them to get there and I hope the figures are true.

If it is true that the figures include tests mailed out but not yet undertaken then i would have a lot more respect for them if they made it clear.

Better to say they undertook 70,000 tests and have sent out a further 50,000 than claim to have smashed the target by 20,000.

The Government are asking us to trust them and follow their policies and by and large the vast majority have, in return I expect my Government to be honest with me.

If the true figure was 70,000 then fantastic it is still a tremendous effort and should be applauded, but i can't help feeling that there was never going to be a situation where Mr Hancock was going to miss his target.

Bluemoon showing distinct signs of just being like the rest of mainstream media at the moment, pretty pathetic point scoring political nonsense on this thread today.

edit....apologies for the earlier poor typo of district instead of distinct, should proof read!

Even though they have their own thread to discuss it and slag the govt to the hearts content , they are like a virus ....

I can only assume they have nobody to argue with on the politics thread

To be fair that is exactly what they said he broke the numbers down into post out, drive thru etc

Anyway back to covid is it just me or is anyone getting sick of these companies jumping on the bandwagon and advertising their product by showing stories about staying home and doing incredible things whilst at home and advertising Their product

I watch the press briefings and try and avoid all other news, but it’s quite hard with these “positive” sickening ads.

May be I am just miserable .

thank fuck for Netflix

And your point is what exactly? You're beginning to sound like Jeremy Corbyn.

Most people would regard getting from where we were to even 50,000 in a matter of a couple of weeks is pretty fucking amazing, let alone the 100,000 which may or may not be questionable.

How about a round of applause for that.
why have you got it political? A few days ago we had capacity and not enough patients ,now in target day we have a massive jump up to get the target and they just admitted over fifteen thousand are tests counted as they put then m in the post not actually tests done, whoever did that I would smell a massive rat

it has fuck all to do with anyone other than the government in place and the NHS. To claim anything other than that is ludicrous.
Do tell me what major epidemic we have had since 2010 that would have resulted in the previous epidemic plan put together in 2006 being reviewed? Politicians wouldn't have touched it, only PHE civil servants and SAGE members would have had any dealings with reviewing it.

Doesn’t matter, we are at around 100,000. Is it 90, is it 110. Did we reach it yesterday, or will it really be reached on Monday. Who cares non of it matters a jot.
What does matter is we are more or less there and in a position to use those tests to get the virus under control. What matters is how those test capabilities are now going to be used, going forward.

dear captain hindsight

everything is pretty much responsibility of the government in place, funding for schools , brexit , the nhs, minimum wage, PPE .....

take your pick.

it’s all political parties job to present in an election why the government is failing and how and why and why in the future that is going to be a problem.

I can tell you the amount of times any political party raised this as an issue in November / December, you know before the pandemic at the time of the election - none, zero.

so it’s easy now in May whilst we are in middle of a horrific global pandemic to say,

arrrghhhh but if only......

Agreed it is great we are finally set up on testing ,i am very proud of the country, what I don't like is the bullshit fed to us about the numbers,i feel they have chased a number and weren't ever going to concede they didn't reach that target,it was politicing testing I feel but for the other thread I expect
Just said on sky 27,000 home kits counted when leave not when they are back and not tested
