Can't believe what I just read, an army colonel comparing the building of the nightingale hospital to the battle of the somme FFS

I said exactly the same to the misses the other day.
It doesn’t seem to be affecting the world’s population though which is still growing by around 200k a day.
Its main affect seems to be to condense the normal deaths of the elderly (like myself) with underlying conditions into a shorter timescale.

The whole thing about the masks not protecting us is bullshit anyway.

They aren't 100% effective. That's not the same as not protecting us. Harvard did a study on how many droplets different things stopped and even a shitty scarf was about 50%, with surgical masks up near 80%.

But for some reason the media heard that normal masks weren't 100% effective and started screaming about them not protecting people.

Imagine if everyone on public transport was protected 80%. If nothing else the initial viral load would be tiny compared to no mask and they've think that's the biggest determinate factor in getting it mildly or severely.
Just as CV has a synergistic effect on the death of elderly people with underlying conditions so does wearing a mask to mainly protect others help to stop infections.
Until a vaccine is developed nothing will be 100 percent effective so totally agree with your post Dom.

An MP from down south has just said on Sky News all care homes have been told anybody over the age of 75 with COVID19 will not be admitted to hospital. This is basically signing their death warrant. Awful just awful

Jesus.....how, as a society, have we got to this?
