COVID-19 — Coronavirus

France's figures today are heart rending.
Yes they are, but they are a bit odd, they have relatively lower days then all of a sudden huge days like today. Think they are checking previous care home, and add the figures from other places all in one batch. April 3rd was another day like today they added 20,000 new cases.

This morning, whilst I was at work, I thought I'd check the state of play for our wards.

Let me just say 3/4 of the wards are COVID-19 pts.

Each one of those wards had an elderly pt that were found on the floor at home.

I suspect these pts are part of the 'forgotten' that have had to self isolate and nobody has thought about them too much. I hope I'm only guestimating the problem.

We have had half the hospital as COVID pts for 2 weeks and the issue is spreading to the other side.

Tonight I learned some of our doors are being shut with access only for staff entry. That means no real A&E access.

I think, within 2-3 weeks, we will solely be a COVID hospital.

Nope. Sweden is following the same trend as everyone else. Their rate is the same. It's also the same as Denmark. you can't look at a single datapoint. if you want to compare you need to graph the data from a known starting point to remove the time lag between countries and then compare.

It's like saying germany are doing something special. If you plot new deaths over total. They are the same as us but a week to 10 days behind. We are a couple of weeks behind italy.
That's what they did in today's presentation and it shows that Germany has managed to suppress the number of deaths much more effectively than other European countries.

Which hospital is.this ?

This type of story keeps coming up - they read like the stories of the fire fighters and helicopter pilots at Chernobyl - going into the fight and realising what they were doing was for the greater good as a self sacrifice. These medics that are dying now are from the point where there were complaints of no PPE. Its hard to feel anything but gratitude and love for these selfless people.
