COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Students get Covid, I understand that, but I think they als deal with it. How many of the 750 Northumbria University students (about which there was an almighty outcry) that tested positive showed symptoms and were ill, and were admitted to hospital, and were put on a ventilator and eventually died...? I guess a big fat zero.

That is why the press hasn't told us this. They haven't followed through on their big story of the day - what a surprise!
It is not all about them getting ill, it is,about spreading it

How is learning about cosine and PI fucking pointless? You talk about teaching the fundamentals, but they are the basic fundamentals of geometry.
Do you not want energy, electricity, x-ray machices, ct scanners or any machine that utilises the electro magnetic spectrum? School is about teaching people the basics. Just because you personally do not need to use geometey in your adult life does not mean that it is not important. Most things that you need to live your life today, from the house you live in, to the way you heat it are built on, or need the basic principals of geometry. Yet, for some reason you seem to think they are not important. The mind boggles sometimes.
Maybe choose to do that at 16 then but you have kids coming out who can do a cos sign and can’t even cook baked beans and before you say bullshit a lad at work in his 20s had never cooked beans ever until recently! And I could t give a toss if my house had an acute right angle roof, teach that a building school.

For those asking about if or how Tier 3 has been working (or not) - here are the Liverpool numbers from 6 October - a week before those measures came in and last two weeks.

Is it working based on these - or not?

Wk starting 6 Oct 562, 584, 576, 454, 358, 456, 562, (Weekly Total 3552)

Wk starting 13 Oct 493, 433, 442, 383, 336, 265, 516, (Weekly Total 2868)

Wk starting 20 Oct 409, 384, 356, 294, 204, 207, 314 (Weekly Total 2168)

These are the actual numbers for that date AFTER reallocation to the day. Up to 26 Oct - last reliable date to have all tests allocated.

I think that suggests there has been an effect and the numbers in that city have obviously fallen.

Whether it is coincidence, the school/university numbers waning and being why numbers were high before them, or the tier three restrictions - another matter,

But the data falling is clearly real.
That looks like its working.

Will be interesting to see what exactly constitutes "lockdown 2".

I'm guessing it is likely to be another miss mash with loads of different interpretations.

You would give a toss though if your house did not have electricity.

correct, but my original point/question still remains, why did they not inform us about this?

As for spreading the virus, surely some detailed trials should have taken place, after all they were quarantined for 14 days weren't they?

Can they still spread it after this time? I seriously doubt it. They should have made a case study of this - another missed opportunity by the government, still didn't really expect much else eh?

I get why schools are gon a be exepmt, but colleges and Uni's have had a instances of super spreading and 16+ yr old students are not following distancing/mask wesrig rule while in so really should be part of any full lockdown.

I doubt they will want them home at the minute though. Probably best they stay where they are for the time being and just close all venues so they can’t go out anywhere. Shagging/music/drugs and booze. They can recreate Woodstock in their bedrooms.

16+ yrs olds don't need home supervision so won't be a childcare issue.

What they do do and I watch it dailly at work is not distance, shake hands, hug, have to told to use the sanitiser provided on their hands, take off masks at every opportunity.

To be honest part of me welcomes this to get away from the different tiers in different regions issues. But I still have doubts on how it will improve things without it being enforced properly.

Are we going to furlough again? If so are we borrowing again? It is intended as a firebreak? What about schools? Have we learn lessons about taking care of the mental wellbeing of the vulnerable from the first lockdown?

So many questions, and you can bet that top of the agenda at the cabinet meeting taking place right now will be what short and snappy three phrase mantra can they come up with this time?

I'm going for stay inside, save Christmas, pray for Virgil

That’s why I’d keep them all there.

What so they should go to college, mainly on public transport, don't follow rules and be potential spreaders, fuck the cleaners, admin, caterers, tutors, caretakers, other staff that are potentially at risk.

Then return home on public transport potentially spreading further.

Keeping them at home and limiting their interactions and movement seems safer to me.

It ain't me I am worried about, when at work I follow the procedures in place and tell anyone less tham 2 Meters from me to move on.

And I wonder what happens at the end of any lockdown if there’s still huge variation in numbers in different regions. Surely they can’t put people in different tiers again.
