Astra Zeneca's behaviour has been exemplary.
A global company that could have made a financial killing out of this pandemic and yet here they are producing a safe, effective vaccine at the lowest cost and on a no profit basis with the objective of maximising the distribution to all countries affected.
Good on 'em.
Have you read the reports of the trial dosages? 3,000 people got the wrong dosages. Apparently these people were better protected but really that's quite concerning that something that should be very carefully controlled goes so wrong.

I give them credit though for being open about it, and for making a good decision when they found about it.

Hadn’t read about that...

Don't do it 7 days before when the cases are dropping that quick the chances are by next week we should be in a lower tier. If it's the difference between not opening and opening i'm sure the venue's in question would prefer to be given the chance to open even if at short notice and possibly a few days later. Don't forget this won't be reviewed for another 2 weeks, so that's 3 weeks ahead they are predicting.
Seven days might not make that much of a difference, particularly if hospital beds continue to be full. There is a bit too much emphasis on this thread about daily changes in case numbers IMHO.

I thought you may already know about the number of ‘achievements’ made in science and technology on the back of errors.

That was actually before Astrazeneca were involved, as I read the report (the initial trial was conducted by the University, spin out, AZ took on later trials and commercialisation). Could be wrong.

Indeed. Hardly gonna build trust right now for those anti-vaxxer is it. Heh.

"It's incredibly safe and we're very meticulous.....oh, we made a mistake"

I'm not arsed personally, but its an easy win for any doubters.

Definitely in PL I work there, just wondering if the big drops might have weight from that compared to the relative UK plateau.
Possibly as I say I don't know, but we have seen a fall here over the last couple if days if that's maintained, and that's to be seen, it will be with schools open and must be down to other things.

Part of the explanation could be that enough have now had it that some level of herd immunity has been reached across Europe - obviously not full herd immunity - and cases are dropping drastically as a result. France reported over 50,000 cases in one day not long ago but now it’s down to around 5000.

I think that, along with far more testing these days, and a vaccine just around the corner should be enough to effectively see it off in the next 6 months or so. I’m not sure it will ever go away completely but I can see it eventually being one of those rare diseases that only a few people get.

Are schools open in those places?
Personally im not so sure shutting schools would make that much of a difference. Having spoken to the head teacher of our school she is certain that they have had no pupil to pupil transmission, the issue appears to be outside of school and pupils gathering together outside of school, parents not isolating or bothering to follow the guidance and some parents even allowing sleep overs!

Good because it could stop be going to prison for punching an old lady. If i have to spend much longer in my coffee shop telling old ladies to stop wandering round without a mask chatting to friends or moving seats or shouting their order in my face with their mask round their chin, I'll crack. And people moan about the young, I have no trouble with them.
