COVID-19 — Coronavirus

There is some anecdotal evidence of this in Stockholm. They do random testing for antibodies. They estimated 25% at one point but also said they saw signs of herd immunity in the number of cases being reported at the same time. Those two things don't agree, so there is something going on which isn't fully understood.

I think we still need to get a vaccine. Even if the infection level drops it's not going to disappear on it's own.

The problem is the standard model for Herd Immunity assumes a completely homogenic cohort whereas in reality there are different levels of heterogeneity in populations. One report I read said that as little as 10% of a population would start to cause Herd Immunity especially where there is some social distancing and a lack of long distance travel. So it's quite possible the two things do agree.

He must be your alter ego then mate as you are the exact opposite. You come across as a nice lad but fuck me, you're so negative its unreal.

Tbh I'm nowhere near as negative as I probably come across on here. Sorry. As I said to someone else on here, I use this place as somewhere to vent. It really helps. Then in actual real life I'm fine. Chatting away and having a laugh with my missus. Couple of low days but I'm just honest. It helps when i get things off my chest. I appreciate it must be annoying at times for others on here to read it, but ya know. Life innit. Weirdly, I'm a relatively positive/hopeful person. Just an emotional one :)

My granddaughter has had her final year at Uni abandoned without her prepared for final exams leaving her still paying for accommodation and frustrated at not being able to get the job she has studied for (legal degree).
how is that going to work result wise as they are giving GCSE and A level based on mocks and course work I believe

So you’re just basically trolling then when posting negative shit? ;-)

"It is my opinion that this is a feasible scenario.

Nobody is claiming to know what will happen for sure - I believe in an unknown situation this is a possibility.

We need to continue to keep our distance and hope the numbers continue to improve."

For anyone interested in the link I posted, from Professor Karl Sikora. He's followed it up with these quotes, as he does with mostly everything he says. Basically it might happen and it might not, but the fact it might is a cause for optimism.

I'm much the same mate. I'm doing my absolute best to see positivity where there is some, no matter how slim the chance. Unless it's factually a no no, I'll remain hopeful. Following that professor keeps my spirits up a bit, some of what he says is fact and genuinely good news. Others, like this, is speculative opinion. It still gives cause for optimism though so fingers crossed.

So this could be the basis of the virus filtering away as per the Prof Karol Sikora comment?
10% is low but I’m still no clearer wether 0.2% or 25% of the population have had it.

You vent away mate, if it makes you feel better. I just had to laugh at you calling the fella out for being annoyingly positive. It tickled me.

Could be an important development in discovering the science behind the lockdown. So far, SAGE have published a fraction of the scientific papers that were discussed behind closed doors, never mind sharing the minutes of the meetings. Might help some people in this country understand the virus better and understand the rationale behind the measures taken.

60,000 people have died. The last thing you should be worried about is being overly negative. The ones who make me suspicious are the ones who don't seem to give a fuck.
