The war you don't want, is the one you cannot see.

I have seen war, but this fucking thing worries me. It's not me I worry about, It's my wife and children. My twins cannot bear to be away from their mum for more than a few minutes. Me, they can deal with being away from. They're too young to know otherwise - it's all they know.

So according to Hancock ‘herd immunity’ is not a thing now? We dropped it or have we changed strategy?
He also says most underlying health conditions when we have been told all had

From today, they need to get their story straight

Meanwhile, the UK's approach to combating COVID-19 has been questioned by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The UK's chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said the government was not looking to "suppress" the disease entirely but to help create a "herd immunity in the UK" while protecting the most vulnerable from it.

He told Sky News around 60% of the UK population will need to become infected with coronavirus in order for society to have such immunity.

But WHO spokesman Margaret Harris said not enough is known about the science of the coronavirus, and that while "theories" can be talked about, the current situation demanded "action".

My daughter met her friend today, she is a junior doctor. She said they have been asked to cancel all their leave and their rotas have been increased. She also said she thought it highly likely that my daughter had already met someone who was contagious. Ie there are 10s of thousands of people already infected.

It's a thing they are hoping for but it isn't the strategy in itself or something like that.

Hoping for? You mean all that learned discussion in the media over the last week on the Govts ‘unique’ strategy to combat a potential second wave by building up ‘herd immunity’ was based on...hope?

No wonder the **** put it behind a fucking paywall.

There are 10's of thousands infected minimum, it could easily be 100's of thousands.

We're pretty much only testing ill people as a country, yet many suffer only minor issues, or even just a moderate cold like symptom, they're told to go home and stay home for 7 days, many do, and don't get worse.

The numbers published are the tip of the iceberg, those with little or no symptoms are infecting others, worse those that even do develop symptoms are already infecting people before symptoms occur.

Deaths suggest the real rate but awkward a it's a lagging indicator and we know the virus can grow exponentially

First case announced in my valley today, would put money on it that it's been here for a while, would be nice if they'd have testing available

Sorry you are dealing with all that lovely, make sure she has all her medications and takes them all, steer well away from stuff like that article, try and stick to the facts and not opinion pieces,no-on needs to be reading that stuff from a broadcaster

I think you can still go and see her if you are really careful, wash your hands before you go and when you get there, don't hug her but just being in the same room will be a comfort to both of you, don't take your son just in case,i think her wellbeing would be better served to see you and/or your sister than not despite the risks, does she have any neighbours than can check in on her?

Can you set up skype as well? eating meals at the same time and talking like you were together perhaps, you will have a line of contact set up which will be reassuring for both of you

I know its a huge worry and i can't help you with that but try and take a deep breath and work out a plan,it will be easier if you can think it through and get something organised

x

I know.. i don't mean to panic, it's just really scaring me. No, mum can't use a computer, doesn't have a smart phone, and refuses to learn how to even text, so i can't do skype type stuff. And the close neighbours she'd known for years have all died the last few years, she moved into the house 2 weeks before i was born, in 1974, and the new neighbours are quite to themselves, and some don't speak english.

Since it all got more scary the last week i'm scared of going to the house though - as i've had a bit of a cough since 1st Feb, but i'm prone to coughs - in 2018 had a bad cough for almost 12 months then it cleared for most of 2019. I don't have the greatest immune system myself though nothing is diagnosed over the recent years (other than my underactive thyroid, and B12 deficiancy), i'm just always quite run down.. I've had my cough 6 weeks, and it's not massively bad, and not constant, so i presume it's not the virus as that doesn't sound like it lasts 6 weeks and i've had no other symptoms and i've not been out anyway for a week now (but again i'm always exhausted, and have achey joints most of the time the last few years), but the fact that i do cough sometimes means i'm scared of now going round, cos what if i have it from my partner as he's had to still go out each day and even if it's not showing yet it comes out in my cough... of course i cover up each time i cough, and i'm obsessed with hand washing (but we have run out of alcohol gel for when i'm outdoors as every bugger has bought in bulk, and mum told me last week "i don't have any soap" - i was livid at my sister for not stepping up... with being in a top floor flat with a 3 year old who is home with me all day and i don't drive it's hard for me to get out lately) but it's now put the fear into how can i go and look after mum when i wouldn't notice if i had the cough symptom as i *already* cough. That makes sense? :( I know i'm waffling in my writing, i'm sorry, i'm stressed and upset and should really be in bed in a minute..

My sister was in a mood with mum as they were both going to the snooker in llandudno for 4 days from monday - i've banned mum from going and at first she was moody too but the last week she understands she can't, but as far as i know unless they cancel it my sister's still going. Mum doesn't eat well at the best of times, she lost 3 stone last year due to lsoing her appetite through her stomach pains... i spent new years eve so worried her upcoming tests would show i was going to lose her... and now i feel i can't even be there for her for months. She's my best friend. East stand 102, that's us..

You think with what i've said it's safe to go round - what if i'm carrying it..

How are you doing with it Karen?

ok, off to bed, another new day tomorrow...

I thought when China and South Korea got on top of this, everyone would copy them or the rich countries would but European and US governments have been very complacent. I think social distancing will work.

I too have have had conversations with my Mum and Dad about how to isolate and it seems very possible thanks to the internet. I only see them at the weekend. It will be hard not to see them next weekend when I will be their only contact with the outside world. I think if I isolate myself then I could still see them at the weekend. It's risky though. I can see why people wear those masks now. A pity I don't have any.
This is 100% correct and frankly anyone who thinks different is an idiot. Why? Experience says do.

The first and second cases in the state I live in were confirmed just this week, with the second case confirmed for someone that worked at a city-managed clinic a block from our new home.

Fairly sure, as you have said, it’s been here for some time already.
