Other watch towns:

Blackburn 12 up from 10, Pop score 1301. Joined the 1300 club today but two good numbers in past 48 hours.

Bradford 64 up from 57. Not doing so well. Pop score up 12 to 1241.

Leicester 34 up from 29. Small creep up in last few days. Pop score 1671.

Rossendale 12 new cases. Still creeping up for surprise entry in top 10 worst in UK. Pop score is only 555 but went up 16 with those 10 cases which tells you why this was such a low case area and has now turned into a hot spot thanks to misfortunes of geography caught between places with big outbreaks.

We just received the following details about a child with the virus in an email from our children's school. I cannot believe how irresponsible (or maybe just thick) the parents are. They deserve to be prosecuted in my opinion.

"The student in question was unwell at the end of the summer holiday and the family requested a test at home kit. They completed this and sent it off, in the meantime the student attended School on Friday 4 September and Monday 7 September. During Monday, the student visited the medical room but did not disclose that he had been tested or had been unwell previously. On the evening of Monday 7 September the family were informed the test was positive."

I'm sorry Karen but in the scheme of things it isn't. It's a small percentage of people that have died today. Other illnesses will have killed far more, as they will tomorrow, yet the daily figures and tables won't be published.

It is a 900% increase on yesterday, hopefully drops down to single digits again tomorrow.

Will be taxi drivers spreading that I reckon.

The regional data is pretty much down a little (most in the NW happily). Though all are still high.

The exception is London.

London rose from 274 to its highest total yet of 329.

Midlands fell dramatically from 430 to 252 - though that is higher than all bar the last two days

Yorkshire fell slightly from 349 to 297.

So both these regions had LESS cases that London today.

And North West had the biggest drop from 614 to 474. That is still the third highest yet behind the 706 and 614 of the last two days. But its an improvement to levels around double where we were a week or so ago not treble as it had been. _

I am not sure of the value of reporting positive tests without knowing the date of specimen and reported within a context of a rolling average. Areas like London and the Midlands are c9m. Thus, circa +/-50 by day doesn't allow for meaningful analysis.

30 is disturbing

It may be partly explained by the post weekend catch-up. In fact, two of the deaths were from yesterday. I'll wait for a few days before making a judgement.

To put the data in to perspective, in my local borough of close to 500k, we have had three Covid-19 related deaths in the last 70 days. That's not to say this is not serious (I am not one THOSE crackpots) but it does give an element of context to the data.

Northern Ireland data finally out. Had 75 cases at just under 1% of tests, Much better than of late.

But the rolling weekly average is 624 cases.

Just 12 patients in hospital. Lowest in a while.

And only 1 on icu. Though the 2 deaths (possibly in the other two beds that were there yesterday) have not been added yet as they are not proven Covid I think as yet.

Good for you. I was responding to a post that said 50% of of people were saying they are clueless and the other 50% were saying they are clueless too.

Meanwhile we all know you will be congratulating them, unconditionally, no matter how much they mess up. Sad.

I don’t think raab, Hancock, Boris and rishi are clueless people - of course there have been errors / it is an impossible situation but the furlough scheme and eat out incentives etc have helped millions. I fail to see how that can be criticised. I don’t know the answer to balancing the economy and this vile virus. I guess they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.

I suspect they are just trying to balance things with a high hope and expectation that a vaccine is not far away.
