The worst thing that happened was the gagging of the scientists in favour of backing cummings ,the scientists were clear!y not happy ,i think when we look back that will be the turning point for lack of clarity and information and some erosion of public compliance , we now need to hear from the scientists regularly and the gov needs to follow their advice ,winter is a dangerous time and we need proper clear and cal. Sorry but that is rubbish, after that, for quite a long time, we got it fully under control as a country, and every measure fell to a minimum. Stop bringing politics into it, there's few governments worldwide haven't made a shit show of dealing with it.

We lost control again, when too much opened up again to get the economy going, and were then unfortunate to have a shitty bank holiday weekend where the weather meant everybody enjoyed themselves indoors, allowing spread from pricks like the fella in Bolton, who instead of following quarantine decided to go on a pub crawl infecting half the town.

The problem we have is that part of the social group who are carrying the infection are immune to cajoling, therefore we will have cyclical or 'sawtooth' restrictions on activity, and this briefing is part of that strategy.

Why were the scientists dropped from the briefings ? Do you think hancock trying to present the graphs was better or did he make a hash of it ? Politics and covid are inertwined , we have scientists who have spent a lifetime in this field they should never have been dropped, I hope they are back to stay ,i want to hear them

I'm pretty sure they were updating each day last week, we'll see later if the 19th appears.

Where are you looking? They did not on the Gov.UK site. If there is a place they are doing I would love to know so I can post the % in here daily.

Scottish data:

0 deaths - but Nicola Sturgeon warns likely only as this is Sunday data.

255 cases at 6.3 % another new record high rate. And she added this daily rise is actually now even higher than this in some parts of Scotland (likely Greater Glasgow for sure).

103 caes in Glasgow 47 Lanarkshire and 30 Lothian

73 (+!0) Biggest rise yet on this new much lower way of defining a Covid patient number - which was 30 less just 6 days ago. So it has indeed been douling here just like in England inside a week.

8 ventilator icu (-1) Though adds that more older people are being seen catching it and leading to rise in icu cases.

NIcola spoke to Michael Gove and got confirmation there WILL be a Cobra meeting; But they have not decided when yet.

Her frustration given the urgency was obvious and her determination will be to act unilaterally tomorrow even if the UK government keeps dithering and still has not called the Cobra meeting.

She, the leaders of the other nations and the most infected region in England mayor have all called for this repeatedly over the weekend.

Scotland wants this to be a UK united decision but will not wait and will go it alone if they are forced to by Westminster still making up its mind.

She also disparaged the herd immunity argument and pointed out that lives of not just the elderly but vulnerable younger people are still at risk and (as Kaz knows) even those who survive can have long term health consequences.

She asks all citizens to think what changes they can make now to their daily life without being asked to and by doing so try to help their country.

If only the UK had more politicians who treated citizens as involved people in a combined fight to resolve this problem.
