The advice has really not really changed and the disease is motoring along at a scary pace, more decisive action needs to be taken rather than leave it to individuals to do the right thing

They’ve got the measures, as they are saying but it’s counterproductive to introduce them now.

They’re explaining why.

Horrible landmark

According to Reuters:

The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has jumped in the last 24 hours by 189 to 1,016, a rise of 23%, the Civil Protection Agency said on Thursday.

The total number of cases in Italy, the European country hardest hit by the virus, rose to 15,113 from a previous 12,462, an increase of 21.7%. That marked the biggest daily rise in absolute terms since the contagion first came to light on Feb. 21.

The agency said that, of those originally infected, 1,258 had fully recovered compared to 1,045 the day before. Some 1,153 people were in intensive care against a previous 1,028.

Which is part of their job to be fair. We are already out of toilet roll and pasta how much more panic can we take! He did say its likely 10k are infected, as bad as it is I think it is right not to panic as the fallout once this has passed will end up doing more damage than the virus itself.
Bizarrely the 10k infected line is really good news. 10 deaths out of 10,000 cases is a lot better reading that 10 deaths out of the known 590 cases. Of course some of the 10k are unfortunately also going to die, but it's still going to be a better ratio that 1 in 59. Hopefully.

His reasoning for not banning sports events
They are literally explaining why they’re waiting to put the measures in and that it’s all about timing but people don’t care to listen.

I am listening but many other countries, the WHO and people who have dealt with major outbreaks are saying the opposite to these two governemt appointed officials about closing schools, cancelling major events etc.

Also this is all scientific projection of what could or would happen for a virus we still know little about.

I just think it is a very casual approach.

As someone with a lung condition, I am expected to take this on faith against what we are seeing world wide.

Sorry I don't l and wouldn't if any government was acting like this.

Boris will have the very best in this country on this type of thing advising him, so whats to say they wont be right? I know id trust the countries top scientists over anyone on here, despite some clearly thinking they know more.
I’m not sure it as based on epidemic science as they are making it sound (to delay the social distancing measures). From this press conference, the sole reason for not taking more decisive action yet is that they don’t trust the nation to fulfil the requirements of a lockdown for very long. That’s not at all to do with epidemiology, it’s more to do with behavioural science. They just think we’ll get bored and quit doing it. Simple as that. So they are waiting for the shit to hit the fan and will then take the measures. Risky. Let’s see how it goes.
