Spain's deaths have jumped by 600+, this is in spite of being on lockdown for two weeks. Maybe this was expected as people were infected prior to the lockdown,?

German health officials feel Germany maybe close to their peak. Will call it for sure on Wednesday.

They are testing huge numbers and their students are co-ordinating tracing. I recall somone suggested something similar a few days ago!

Everywhere where this virus has been beaten quickly has involved mass testing

I'm in work today.
Boss told me to fit a window.
It needs two people to lift it.
How do we do that and stay 2.m apart.
Not doing anything now apart from wait for the call to stay we need to shut up shop and everyone go home.
Pathetic situation
Maybe give him the heads up on future possibilities. For every loved one who dies unnecessarily there will be ( insert number ) people asking questions at the end of this. Some will blame the government, some will blame others. It's not a threat, it's human nature.

I’ve just posted on this in the BJ thread, the wider implications of these authoritarian measures will be worrying. It’s essentially proving how easy it would be for fascism or communism to take over in Europe again.

I know this is political and we have a thread for it but I’ve been banned (for being told to fuck off?) and I wanted to respond to this directly.

I think what this situation is proving, is that pure capitalism has gone way to far. We need to move back into the middle and bring more elements of socialism back into society and quickly.

It's a valid point but this is a global crisis. How many deaths do you accept before you take the most drastic of actions? We have a left of centre government in Spain that I don't believe has any long term ambitions of facism but in countries like Turkey and Hungary it could be an issue.

I think Spain needs to hold onto their hats for at least ten days and then we'll see how beneficial the current lockdown is.

I completely agree that no European government wants to enforce fascism or communism, my point is that it lays a carpet out for future would be dictators.

I’m in favour of a lockdown this week. I won’t complain about one, it’s evident the freedom to make the choice personally, the government have allowed, has resulted in people ignoring them.

Unfortunately the virus does not respect rights or wrongs, it is only interested in its own survival and seeks out medical weakness to ultimately kill its host.

Deaths reflect the cumulative history, not where we are now with the speed of the infection.

What data you choose depends on what you are trying to find. if you want the peak of the epidemic, compare the change in new cases (the problem with this data is it is subject to testing rates, and all data wobbles) but the trend should be reliable.

You don't understand fascism or communism if you think governments enforce it.

Don't worry, 'we're ramping up' according to the Health Secretary...
Should manage a couple of thousand by a week next Friday.

We're back to that site again, BB. :-)
I see 391 yesterday yet 41 today; are you merging both figures?. Also seeing a much lower figure for new cases today.

They've updated, I posted just after public announce by spanish authorities. It's 410 now there, though some sources have it at around 460. I guess the main problem with different numbers at different sources are due to different day reset times. Spain is bit tricky too, they have this big morning update, but some cases are being updated later in a day too.

Fair play to Piers Morgan, I don't always agree with him - but he is going in hard on Hancock and the government.

Absolutely spot on from Piers. The lot of them have been negligent, the government, their advisors, the seemingly millions of twats in our population, and thousands, likely tens of thousands, are now going to die that otherwise wouldn’t have.

If they are, then they are fucking champions. Very small amount of deaths and they even haven't gone to total lockdown. I'm bit skeptic though, looks too early to be the peak.
