It is kind of odd to write of the reference quoted to say 2.5% of 500M = 50M.
Yeah, as explained on that blog they calculated a death rate on the whole world population instead of the usual CFR that they're using for this virus as well.

<2.5%

So very similar to this then.

Just the 50-100m deaths it is.
It should be noted that the 1918 influenza pandemic had a much more deadly pattern in that it killed more healthy and younger people than older people. Very different to what we are seeing now, so predictions based on this are probably not relevant.

Yeah but death rate is death rate. Whether killing young and fit or old and frail.

As it is, it seems Spanish Flu had a far great mortality rate, which is a bonus.

And that the fatality rate (CFR) as explained in SWP's article was between 10% and 20%, not around 2,5% ;)
Different times and arguably far worse medical care, but still.

A study I read once was that people born before 1880 were exposed in childhood to a particular virus and therefore had a level of immunity and those born after 1900 also were exposed to another one and again had a better ability to fight this flu strain. This left those born 1880 to 1900 without as much protection and unfortunately these were the same people coming back from the trenches. Must have been an awful time for everyone.
