COVID-19 — Coronavirus

If everyone simply does what they should ALWAYS b doing during the flu season, we should be fine. I’ve never washed my hands and used as much hand sanitizer as I have this past few weeks. We have gallons of it at the house and carry around pocket sized containers. We clean off every surface with it when out in public (had lunch out yesterday) and then do our entire routine as soon as we leave the place. I’m definitely not the problem.

Hence my reference to human nature to another poster.

It’s not pretty here, but with $5Bn cash on hand, and some tax relief expected from Washington, I’m hoping it won’t mean layoffs and the voluntary leaves will take care of it. At about 3,000 of 13,000 on the Seniority List, my job goes away when the airline goes away, so I’m not too concerned about furloughs, but we just cancelled 23 new hires 3 days before they were scheduled to start, so I’ve suggested a $15/mo Captain & $9/mo FO union dues assessment to cover their pay every month until they are rehired. We will see what outreach they get.

As I said on our Pilot Forum...GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!

Yes good luck to you.

The airline industry is certainly in for a rough ride but it will recover, might take some time. Possibly not fully until they have a vaccine for this thing.

Determined to use any lockdown period to get fit and lose weight. Give my liver a rest.

Anyone who personally knows me will confirm I’m an alcoholic* (albeit a low-level one imo) so I reckon if I don’t give the booze a rest then, I never will - and I can honestly live with that. I’ve had a ball tbf, but I’d like to live for a little while longer. Also I’m 50, not 30. I’ll miss it like fuck though.

my tactic too (though booze isn't an issue), if we get a couple of weeks isolation (just precautionary) and have to ration then could be a transformative thing for the better.

This just in, we living in the yellow zones in Italy are officially further locked in. Fortunately my grandparents live in the same city as my aunts so if they need anything they have them, as me and the others wouldn't be able to reach them now.

Is it actually being enforced? Or just advisory?

The Italian government is poised to introduce tough new measures to try and stop the spread of coronavirus, including telling people not to enter or leave the hardest-hit region of Lombardy, according to a draft decree.

So far, limited areas of northern Italy - known as "red zones" - have been quarantined.

But the draft legislation tells people not to travel out of or inside Lombardy - the country's wealthiest and most populous region, which includes the financial capital Milan

Another 11 provinces in other regions are also covered in the document which is expected to be approved in the coming hours.

Those include Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini in the region of Emilia-Romagna; Venice, Padua and Treviso in the region of Veneto; Asti and Alessandria in Piedmont; and the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the central region of Marche

The decree instructs citizens to "absolutely avoid" either entering or leaving the areas listed, and even to avoid moving around other than for emergencies or "essential work reasons" within the designated areas

Cafes and restaurants will be allowed to stay open as long as a distance of one metre between customers can be guaranteed

Schools will be closed until at least 3 April in all areas covered by the decree - including towns in Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont.

Museums, gyms and swimming pools will also close and holiday is cancelled for all health care workers, according to the decree which has been seen by Reuters news agency.

The country has seen its number of infections rise by more than 1,200 in the last 24 hours and has reported the second highest number of fatalities at 233

They are going hardcore

Globally, the number of coronavirus cases has passed 102,000 and there have been more than 3,400 deaths worldwide

I find the idea of having to discipline myself to be novel, challenging but something I reckon I’d be ok at if I applied my mind to the task. I’ve just always got away with doing my own thing and getting through. Nothing lasts forever!

Well some points of this decree sound like they'll be strictly enforced, other less so. Regarding exit and entering our zones or moving within our own zone, it's only strictly allowed "for not-postponable serious work matters and for emergency situations."

Edit: looks like Karen already covered it.

I thought the same but it was getting away from me and I was noticing problematic changes so I'm trying a reset, about a week in and not perfect by any means but managed to get some things right which is a positive. If this thing is going to strike then trying to make healthier changes to get any sort of help fighting it will be important.
