I just think she sums up why I’m so fearful about what will happen here.
He says he’s worked in this field for 20 years and this is the most frightening thing he’s come across. Worse than Ebola, worse than MERS, worse than SARS, and only really comparable to Spanish Flu in 1918 in terms of the combination of contagiousness and lethality.
If that doesn’t make people stay at home for several months unless absolutely essential, I don’t know what will. We are faced with an incredibly serious situation here and as I look around I feel like less than 5% actually realise it.
The government need to mobilise us, they need to convince us of what we need to do. Stop saying “it’s too premature to be thinking of doing .....” and fucking do something. Jesus wept, I can’t cope any more with the ignorance and complacency.
Get used to it. There will be people/bots on Twitter now arguing that it’s not as bad as the flu, there will be posts on Facebook saying similar etc.
The Government want us to carry on and that will continue to be the advice until they have politically no choice.
Even then no matter what the infection rate/death rate is they will praise our spirit and make a passing comment on the dead
People are forgetting the contempt in which this government holds the population. They are sitting on a report about online Russian interference, does anyone seem to care? No. “Oven ready” Brexit deal, nothing could be further from the truth but does anyone care? No, quite the opposite as they won a landslide majority. Hundreds of homes flooded and families displaced, where was the Prime Minister? Out shopping for engagement rings or finishing off his book(allegedly)
I was glad this initial outbreak happened in China because they don’t fuck about. Football, stopped, parks closed, hospitals built and everyone stayed indoors - our government and probably wider society doesn’t have the bottle or appetite
