It's manna from heaven for them. They're always whining people are living too long, imagine killing off thousands of those people who cost them money through healthcare and pensions. They managed it with lots of the poor and disabled during austerity, this is the icing on the cake. Even Blair once mentioned the working class in the context of collateral damage.

Exactly! He’s basically admitted they discussed how this could be used to their advantage. To even mention it shows he’s not appropriate to be PM. Whether he agrees or not is irrelevant

Depends how you look at it. I'm going for much less global deaths than the sixties pandemic (1 million).
I agree, but mostly down to the world's reaction to it and the advances in knowledge of how to deal with these things.
If this had happened 50 years ago it would have been tens of millions I reckon.

China and S Korea seem to have managed to put a lid on it. Will be interesting to see what happens if and when they start to remove restrictions.

Don't need to go back in time. What steps do you suggest that haven't already been implemented by the various national road safety institutions?
My point is that 1.2million deaths per year doesn't cause people to fight over toilet roll. Why not?
Because bog roll isn't much use following a car crash.

I've had a scratchy throat for about three weeks which has developed into an irritable cough over the last five or six days.

Also have a sniff developing. Doing all the required protocols, washing hands, etc.

I work from home and have not knowingly come into contact with anyone infected.

I'm sure it's just a cold and I have no temperature, only discomfort.

Have a young family, do I self exile, go to the hospital for a check (just for peace of mind) am I supposed to distance myself from the people in my own house?

I wasn't gonna go to Arsenal tomorrow and maybe Burnley too, just to be respectful of others?

It's just the lack of real clarity which has me questioning something I would normally just get on with.

It’s going to be a very interesting year. To keep a lid on it, surely all of the countries have to keep their borders closed and have lock downs throughout the country. Can’t see it being contained unless a combined plan is come out with.

End of the world!

Because the State isn’t likely to put you in lock down therefore you are not concerned at shortages.

Again a reminder that China did close down for a month or so and isn’t, as a general rule, prone to giving a shit about its citizens.

This is where the advice provided has been utter wank so far. And if you call 111 they won’t book you in for a test as you’ve not knowingly come into contact with done that that’s infected nor have you returned from an affected area. They are barely telling us anything, but I’d have thought you’d definitely have a fever if it was COVID-19

I am not sure what to do with this response as it completely misses the point of mine.

i think the thing is- all this is in the back of your mind and the problem is you get a twinge a cough or something and you will think the worse,i was bad last week with hot fushes etc but all gone now, who knows i may have had it and that might be it

Are you sure you've actually read my post + Sebastian's one?
Are you sure that is going to be your point in this discussion?
I agree that this fighting over toilet rolls in Anglo countries is useless and completely idiotic, but that has nothing to do with our argument.
