Do other countries have the same level of outrage over absolutely everything ?

no matter what Boris said tonight it’s obvious it would divide opinion and everyone would launch onto social media and forums to vent. It’s tiresome.
That's our political journalists for you. A complete set of complete and utter dweebs with ZERO intellectual rigour and integrity who are only interested in pointing the finger and blamestorming.
Frankly you'd have to be a complete and utter bonehead not to understand what Boris Johnson said tonight. Oh and there will be full details on every point in Parliament tomorrow as well as a 50 page accompanying document.

Why can't leaders say that, if football fans know it? Actually we all know it apart from those who think people who wear masks are mad.

I hear people still talking about booking holidays abroad in July and other similar stuff. I think so many have grown up in the everything instant at your fingertips age that they believe this virus can be dealt with the same way.

Belgium 8,581 deaths 11.42 pop 751.27 deaths/capita
Spain 26,478 deaths 46.72 pop 566.69 deaths/capita
Italy 30,395 deaths 60.43 pop 502.97 deaths/capita
United Kingdom 31,587 deaths 66.49 pop 475.07 deaths/capita
France 26,284 deaths 66.99 pop 392.37 deaths/capita

not quite, but given we had 2 extra weeks to prepare for this and basically procrastinated the time away, we should be in a better position. Belgium is a ridiculous stat tho
Not really - Along with the Netherlands it's the densest populated country in Europe. Flanders is especially dense

Yeah he can. Some just have higher standards than others. If he had said the following people would have been a lot happier:

- plans to test a minimum 100k people a day with no exception
- plans to antibody test parts of the UK to ascertain where we are before getting back to work. Let us know how many they think have had it etc. Any updates in immunity?
- clear safety measures to be put in place and checked before businesses let staff return to work, plus how they plan to enforce this
- clear reasoning as to why its okay to see your work colleagues and bosses but you cant see your family from a distance
- an update on the contact tracing app and how its working and when itll be rolled out nationwide
- what exactly is being done to protect care homes
- an explanation as to the weird france only quarantine exception
- what people are meant to do on public transport if they have to go to work. Masks? Why not provide people with them?
- any more PPE updates for workers?
- any attempt at explaining why we shouldn't be worried that these changes won't put the R above 1. Just anything. Explain some of the science. It'd be useful.
- in general just 'why now?'. What exactly puts us at 4 going into 3. And then 3 into 2. Etc. Will we go back into lockdown if it goes up again? Just more info please.
- if he had just been fucking honest with us. Pretending we've been really successful is incredibly disengenuous when you look at the numbers dead. Show humility. Say theres things we could do better and maybe there's areas we've reacted too slowly. Just honesty. It goes a long way.

There are still loads of areas to improve. Lots of unanswered questions. If they cant do some of those things yet, explain why and then when. Honesty. If he'd be as instructive and as helpful as all that up there I'd have said fair fucks and appreciated it. Most would. As it is he really needs to do better. It left uncertainty. We need less of that where possible. We don't have to accept low standards.

There are lots of unanswered questions because in some areas there are no answers at the moment. The whole thing is progressing and changing daily.

Some of the points you mention shouldn’t need a grown adult telling another grown adult what it means.

“- clear reasoning as to why its okay to see your work colleagues and bosses but you cant see your family from a distance”

Take this one for example, it’s obvious, you’re not “seeing them”, you’re working with them, it will contribute to the economy and is needed. Having a cup of tea with your mum and dad is not, especially when aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters can just pop round as well with the same attitude.

No government should ever be truly transparent with the public, it’s a recipe for disaster but if you feel they aren’t telling the truth then you have to do some research, too many just now press the send button without thinking.

Also for someone who has shown mass panic on the situation on both here and Twitter, it might not be helpful to not miss an important announcement on the matter, especially when unless a family emergency is happening, there is nothing to miss it for.

Spot on, and also have zero patience.

As an ex seaman I'm used to isolation, being separated from loved ones etcetera so I am okay with that part. Patience we had to have. Funnily enough it helped to have no internet, tv or being able to just pick up a phone and talk to someone when I wanted. You just kind of went into the zone and just concentrated on your life in the now. The slightly wobbly bit is the uncertainty. At sea we knew after 4-6 months it would be over and we could enjoy life again. We had an end in sight. With this there isn't one.

With the lockdown we have we are just going to be going round in circles having wave lockdown wave lockdown that will be going on for years if no vaccine is found.

Only solution I see is locking down the older generations and letting the younger build up herd immunity.

The lockdown wouldn't be compulsory each individual has to weigh up the risks

Well that was very well put and as ever he is a magnificent figurehead If you don’t understand it you shouldn’t be allowed out.
Yes, great script, clear plan, lots of lovely diagrams. Yes what he’s says is clear in plan but in practice and policing these relaxations is going to be a challenge, e.g. primary school children. Personally I’ll hold fire on the magnificent adjectives for now, they have to be earned.

Recovering this morning from the worst discussion I have had ever with my Dad last night. He was a life long Labour supporter who - in my view obvs - was turned by the Brexit narrative but has become someone who politically and socially I barely recognise. He has become so rabid racist right wing were he not my Dad I wouldn't maintain contact with him. Tonight he revealed that because " of what he has seen on his phone as he no longer watches the msm" that -
1/ The virus is being spread by Muslims as mosques are still open and the Police act upon reports of VE Day parties not Friday Mosque prayers.
2/ There are more infected illegals getting into the UK than might be coming in on authorised airline flights
3/ people need to just use common sense and steer clear of foreigners
4/ the media are inflating the number of dead and its about 3,000 tops no matter what they say
I am devastated - the man I looked up to is no longer what I thought - I really don't know what to say to him and worst of all I am not sure I want to call my 82 year old Dad again next week at the agreed time .....devastated.
