Boris:- If these measures do not reduce the R to 1 then further much stricter actions will be taken. So up to society to change behavior.

Measures may need to run for 6 months.

Kier Starmer: Will support. But the measures running for weeks in places like GM not bringing numbers down. So how sure is Boris these will work?

Kier Starmer: A Second lockdown would be a national disaster, We must avoid it. Not inevitable. But the governmrent must lead.

Little change for us in Manchester .

just can’t get be in a pub after 10 which I rarely am anyway.
Pub will make no difference at all, as less than 5% of all transmissions have been traced to pubs and the hospitality sector. Hancock was adamant that transmission inside homes was the driver of this virus, just last month.

"The reason is that the evidence from NHS Test and Trace for where people catch the disease is that, very largely, they catch it from one household meeting another household, usually in one of their homes," Hancock said.

they dont play indoors ?

It already applied to six outdoors (with exemptions like the PL) but is being extended to include indoors. I think that is what he said. It was all rather fast and bumbled as usual.

But it does mean no fans and axing of trials for that in October and the lower leagues have already said closure of clubs may now follow.

Don't usually post on this thread but bloody hell, just heard the statement from Boris. You can park the politics to one side. Starmer has no future vision either. But not a single mention from Boris of any long-term strategy, no proper explanation about what we are actually trying to achieve, no long-term vision. What is the end game?
Just suppressing the virus in an incoherent stop-start process is not going to get us out of this. He keeps mentioning Spain and France. What about the hundreds of countries that are managing this crisis in a much less damaging way?

Really can't be arsed with all of this anymore. It all feels so directionless, reactionary and lacking in any thought whatsoever. Just wears you down doesn't it? Think i'm gonna try and subconsciously switch off from it all and carry on as I was, acting as if nowt has changed really. Safe distance, meet outdoors, wash my hands more. Standard stuff that we've all gotten used to. I do bloody miss doing fun things though. Going to gigs, spending quality time with friends, being indoors in places other than my own flat ffs, going football, properly living etc etc...sigh!

Did he encourage you to meet in large groups, ignore social distancing etc?

I'm not sure if it's difficult for you to see the backwards steps the government is taking which suggests their communication and strategy are a shambles. Venting frustration at the public after pressing for people to eat out isn't a good luck. He didn't encourage large groups but surely it should have been assessed that a minority of dickheads would ignore these rules.

We were also told only last month that we needed to return to work, he is now suggesting this isn't a priority and we should work from home where possible.

Attendees to a wedding now reduced to 15 (was 30).

Why weren't harsh fines introduced in the first place to prevent large gatherings?

There is only one strategy. To suppress it and save as many lives as possible whilst keeping the economy above water until we get a vaccine. Not likely to be before March on a wide enough basis to make a big difference except to NHS staff and vulnerable who may get it a few weeks earlier.

Assuming any of the ones we have bought or funded hundreds of millions of doses of on spec actually work as so far looks at least one might.

Unless of course something unexpected occurs - such as the virus mutates to less harmful or herd immunity actually happens to a degree high enough to change the equation. But nobody can assume either of those as likely or plan how we live over those 6 months without presuming neither will.
