You'd think they would have one of them presentation clickers so that they dont have to say next slide please

could have continued doing what we were doing but better. and kept the vulnerable shielded. now we are all in the same crap place not ten percent of us. people will lose their livlihoods and homes. mental health issues will soar and the suicide rate will rise. thats the down side of this move

Agree with the second half but no way could we continue. Its just not working. And the longer we wait to take decisive action, the worse all those issues become.

The problem is the govt isn't acting on track and trace which we absolutely have to sort out to avoid bouncing straight back to another lockdown when this one is relaxed. There's no other way.

I real struggle to understand how school stay open, every one of those charts show the increase starting as soon as the schools went back and Boris told the furlough staff to go back to work but dont go back to work, use the train dont use the train etc etc.

i feel sorry for the companies that have to close again, and people are told to work from home if you can, but we ignore the threat that kids will bring into the household. Many kids around here walk shoulder to shoulder, no facemasks from the train station or bus stop, walk around the town like it a dinner time. I understand kids need school but they arent obeying the guidelines when out of school.

But does this mean my lads gf cant come over and he cant visit her ??

Under the four week lockdown, can me and my four year old son still visit my 77 year old single (and invalid) mum, as her support bubble? Or are supposed to leave her to decline even more like the spring one she spent alone did?

She lives in a goldfish bowl of a cul-de-sac and based on the glares I get from her neighbours (who never ever check on her) whenever I go - they clearly do not grasp what a bubble is and think I'm breaking grtmanc rules - I expect the police to turn up one day :(

You can but not the child

I would suggest you would be fine to visit here as part of her support bubble.

essentially trying to blunt it till they can maybe shut the schools a week early for a month at Christmas followed by some revised "tier 3" measures. Then they go back to school so a lockdown mid-end of Jan to half-term, and then just hopefully the weather picks up or immunity starts blunting it/a vaccine seems to be imminent. Rapid testing in targeted areas will help with track and trace, that seems to be their new strategy.

For the sake of 4 or so weeks as hard as it may be, I would only visit alone mate if that is possible .

but a bubble is one household of multiple people linked with one single person, so why can i not take my 4 year odl to see his grandma whilst her demntia still knows who he is?

A bubble counted anyone in my home mixing with just my mum at her home. That is a bubble.

So does it not now?

The gov description of a bubble =

A bubble is defined as a group of people with whom you have close physical contact.

In England, single adults living alone - or single parents whose children are under 18 - can form a support bubble with one other household.

The second household can be of any size and can include "at risk" people who were previously shielding.

Wherever possible, the government recommends that a support bubble should be with another local household to avoid unnecessary travel.

and i guess i will leave my 4 year old alone at home if mum phones me in a panic, i walk to her home , it's 6 minutes walk away. My partner has call outs and isn't always home while working from home.

My mum is ready to kill herself. and i might bloody join her.

I came to the conclusion some years ago that as a country, we are fundamentally quite unpleasant actually. Of course we have our good points but there are far, far, far too many utter wankers in our society. We are in large proportion, self-centred, arrogant, rebellious and basically not very nice. Witnessing the countless scenes of mass non-compliance with Covid restrictions, only goes to illustrate the point. It's like it's in our genes to resent authority, to be non-compliant and to ignore rules. It's almost as if it's what defines us as being British.

Which is why I find it so difficult to understand our government's approach, which when compared to that of other countries, can only be described as "let's ask the public nicely if they would be kind enough to do X". OF COURSE this was never going to work.

Other countries have FAR tighter restrictions, and critically, enforcement and punishment. And whilst us Brits seem to want our freedoms more than most, and therefore the government has been loathed to be too Draconian, ironically we need more Draconian measures not less, because of what we are like. More policing (augmented by the army where we don't have enough numbers), stronger policing - none of this softly softly "have a word" bollocks - MUCH bigger fines and even custodial sentences for the worst cases of rule-breaking.

Should we have water canon out on the late night revellers? Of course we should. The rave over the summer near me in Bath was allowed to continue because the police felt there were too many people and they couldn't do much to stop it. What a disgrace. They should have pulled the plug out and arrested the DJ and the organisers. And if they didn't have enough police, mobilise back ups, including the army if needed.

If people want to act like tossers, I am sorry but we have to treat them like tossers. It's not like this is a bit of a laugh. Thousands of lives are at stake and I think the enforcement and punishments are in that context a complete joke.
Well said mate. This county has been going down the drain for years. Too many self entitled horrible selfish bastards about.
