Covid and travel discussion

Yeah but they have to pay extra on the cable cars.
Actually the funniest thing I saw in many a year was a United fan in our night trip up there who strayed off the designated path. The guide warned his girlfriend he could be shot in that area - cue lots of praying and crossing of fingers. Sadly he lived but at least had the decency to fall asleep on the way back.

I remember howling at this story when you first posted it. I've been on that exact coach trip lol.

I went on the trip with a lad off here. The United fan and his Poundland Jordan girlfriend never even knew what time of day it was as they were out of it. He never even knew what excursion they had booked( massive clue on the side of the minibus " night stars teide excursion" or something similar. He then whinged the whole journey up there, and said he wanted a taxi back down. The guides placated him by telling him he could look at the moon from the big telescope.

Sounds like the usual window licking rag.

Ryanair are such a bad company, I’m never booking with them again, to talk to a person is impossible and therefore to get any joy of moving dates for reasonable amount is impossible

I don't necessarily disagree, but this goes back to way before Covid and is pretty common knowledge how what type of company they are.

If anything, Covid has made them (marginally) more flexible.

I'll continue to book them for personal travel, but I'd never spend a significant amount on their flights and would sooner fly with someone else if the difference in cost isn't too great.

From a work perspective, we are loathe to ever book them again even as part of packages and will just instruct people interested in a flight only to book it themselves directly on the Ryanair website as we (travel agency) can't deal with them anymore.

Unfortunately, the only other airline that can compete with Ryanair on their headline fares is Wizz Air, and they are just as bad if not a little worse.

Can definitely see that, only ever used Wizz once, but not impressed. Managed to have even less legroom than Ryanair.

Anyone been to Gran Canaria recently?
Booked & paid for Mid October & sorted all the tests out, bit a bit jittery on whether I should go or not.

I absolutely would not recommend booking tests far in advance of when you need them. Was due to go away in June, bought the tests 11 days out, delivered 9days out, that day it moved from Green to Amber. Then had a six week wait till I got refunded.

I have just used Breathe Assured to confirm my negative status. Very easy to do. I have now been granted an exit visa by our Great Leader Boris and will be travelling to Croatia on Thursday.

Off to Crete in a week. Heraklion airport coming top of worst airport lists pre-pandemic so cannot wait to go through that.

I remember going to Kefalonia last October and it was non vaccine but lowish case rate period and they were just plucking incoming passengers to be swabbed once done you had to quarantine for two days in your room until the results came through it wasn’t a good feeling anyone looking at the floor trying not to be noticed. Guy in charge was a right fucking charmer.

Luckily I escaped with being herded. I hope it’s got better since.

I've got Zante a week on Saturday....was supposed to be Kos but hotel closure enforced a change.

It's random testing on arrival in Greece I believe, and I've heard the lead passenger is the most likely person to be pulled up (if you're travelling 2+ on one booking)

I got pulled up for a test on arrival in Halkidiki last October but there wasn't any need to isolate in the room, could carry on with the holiday as normal and you'd only be contacted if it came back positive. Perhaps different destinations and islands had different policies though.

For anyone considering a jolly, Jet2 are almost giving away holidays to Greece at the end of the month/start of next.

What sort of price and type of board mate?

Would like to see Halkidiki, was it warm enough in October?

You can pick up a week self catering from a little over £200 a head, depending on dates/destination. Flights, hotel, luggage and transfers etc all included. The bank holiday Monday looks to be the cheapest date to depart. Will screengrab some stuff below.

We went to Halkidiki 7th to 12th Oct and had pretty sunny clear days with few clouds, temps were early to mid 20s and very comfortable. Once the sun went down though it did get quite chilly, and you'd need trousers and a jumper most evenings. Can get a week 4* half board first week of October for £333pp.

Haha all the threats of being denied boarding if you don't do that form at least the day before departure and then they just ain't interested in it.

Good to hear Zante is treating you well, forecast looks amazing over there right now.

Looking forward to some gyros and Mythos.
