Covid and travel discussion

Booked Greece last week of August and hoping that we get away with PCR testing fingers crossed and test to release. If not, I'd be gutted, but probably do a week in London over Oct Half Term.

Also going Greece (Kos) end of August, quietly confident it will go ahead, albeit with some hurdles like testing etc

Rhodes in June is a bit more squeaky bum but it's a low cost gamble so just gotta hope for the best.

Got 3 nights with flights for £110 so all good. The gyros and Mythos will be tasting even better this summer.

Travel corridors might offer hope. Booked the airport lounge and fast track security to make it as stress free as possible lol.

Really hope we can go abroad this year. Its the one thing that now gets me through every shitty week at work.
If we can't then I've suggested a City break to the other half. Maybe Edinburgh or York. Somewhere with a bit of history.

Surely the AZ resistant South African variant being live in most of Europe is going to make this very difficult. It's as much as 10% of cases in some countries. Would seem ridiculous for us to throw away the hard work. Europe would come down off this wave were Kent and others dominated cases - we'd bring SA back here and be back at square one almost instantly.

If they're making noises now about stopping summer holidays, I fear the decision is made and they're laying the foundations for breaking the bad news soon

I'm hoping to get to the Canaries in late October but I've got a feeling that won't happen either
You’re right, it does feel as if they’re actively briefing against it.
Got 2 weeks booked in northern Spain at end of August and I’m starting to doubt it. Hope UK hoteliers and resorts don’t take advantage and double their prices but we all know they will.

What is the latest update on concerts.
Meant to be going to Wembley for Eagles end of August.
Can't see it happening though

The problem is if they say it’s not safe to travel abroad this year because of variants, what is different next year and the year after?

it’s the same with other parts of society that are locked down. There’s always going to be another reason why scientists/phe people say it’s not safe. Someone at some point will need to have the balls to say it doesn’t matter.

Right now, I think it's that the SA variant is live, widespread, and known not to respond to AZ. Which is what we're all dosed up with.

Bring SA back to this country, and we might as well have not bothered with any of it. Straight out of the frying pan and straight into the fire.

You're right, variants will emerge but this current situation looks like a bit of a worse case scenario.

We went to Edinburgh last summer and enjoyed it (not as much as somewhere like Barcelona or Seville, mind you). Probably not somewhere we’d have gone if we’d been able to go abroad.

because we are still in a pandemic

I often wonder if there were this many selfish wankers when 50-100m were dying in 1918-20. My guess is probably not.
Who are the selfish wankers. The ones who want to go away if the government say it's ok to do so on 17th May. I am asking for a friend. Because no one is allowed to travel at the moment?

No, the wankers saying “but if we can’t go now then they’ll change the rules and keep changing the rules [because it’s obvious every country in the world really wants to fuck their own economy for a big laugh]” as per:

Good, but you won’t die will you and you won’t kill my remaining parent by idly passing on how sick you feel either.

So off you fuck and be pleased I only make you feel sick on here.
So just to be clear, you want lockdown until every adult in the world is vaccinated?

no need for the use of language. It’s possible to debate without throwing insults about.

At what point will they stop testing etc I wonder because as everyone gets the jab it becomes similar to flu then doesn’t it, there will be deaths from Covid 19 every year like flu so when do they stop and it just becomes like that. Going off current rates of inoculations everyone should be done by September, then probably boosters every year. Someone at some point is going to have to say its acceptable deaths as they have with flu, aren’t they?
