Covid and travel discussion

In Skidby at the moment with the family for my dad's 90th. A detached barn £800+ for 4 nights. The weather is about 12 degrees and intermittent rain. Popped into the local with the brother in law for a couple of pints this afternoon and I think smiling has been banned in the place. It also shuts at 10pm. Needs must at the moment but if this is the last holiday I ever have in this country I will be ecstatic.

jet 2 have just informed me spain is going to change entery requirement from tomorrow requiring full vaccination status or a negative pcr test.so now with only 2 days to go we have to scrambe trying to get pcr tests for the grandkids its a fucking clusterfuck

First I have heard of this. Just had a look and Jet 2 have not informed me of anything. Mrs M7 and I are fully vaxed. My boys are 10 and 8 years. Do they need PCR tests now? How old are your grandkids?

Its only been announced in the last 24 hours, U12 exempt according to reports

Also worth considering if you are travelling - having second jab before you go doesn't automatically get you a covid pass. It's the second jab PLUS 2 weeks (so vaccine has time to get up to full effectiveness) before NHS app will issue the QR code you need for countries asking for "full vax"

This is the problem things change so rapidly..I paid for an antigen test in December on the Tuesday for Tenerife. My flight was Thursday. Packed, apartment pre booked ( luckily not paid) and on the Wednesday they announced antigen tests no longer accepted. Gutted. Mind you they then imposed a 22:00 until 6am curfew and masks worn everywhere even outside so probably just as well.

It's a gamble. Once you're there within days they could suddenly change things that mean your holiday isn't as enjoyable. Tough call at the moment

Feel lucky that I managed a week in Corfu last October, although if the government had done the right thing we would have been in lockdown then rather than 2 weeks later.

The way our case rates have gone up over the last week I’m surprised they’re letting anyone in at all from the UK, and the imposition of more strict tests was the minimum they’d do.

Behind a paywall for me but thanks.

Use the incognito option If using chrome browser. Usually gets past these sort of "fair-use" restriction paywalls. You should be able to see the article that way, won't work on hard paywalls like The Times.
