It’s Massimo Osti‘s design from the 1980s where he crossed a field jacket with 1920-60s driving goggles for drivers of the Italian ‘Thousand Miles’ road race to keep the shit from their eyes, so did originally have a functional use.

Football casuals in England and Italy loved the design and adopted it as a fashion item. It’s iconic now, despite there being no functional use for it.
