Craig "Shez" Shennan (sadly passed today 01/06)

For anyone interested in coming down

One team will be managed by a local lad close to Shez, the other will be managed by Big Steve, we are also hoping to get a few ex City players involved. All raising money for Shez and his family, feel free to drop me a message if interested.

Cracking idea. And a decent boozer! I think Cole palmer’s dad manages their footy team doesn’t he?

Will be there

Saturday April 18th 1998. Funnily enough it was my birthday but that’s not the talking point here. The night before Shez and plenty of us Leve Blues had been up at the Riverside to see us slip to a Friday night 1-0 defeat against 10 man ‘Boro which saw us slip closer towards relegation to the third tier.

Anyway, Saturday came and instead of wallowing in the disappointment of the night before, the Leve Blues had a pre-organised visit to Spotland to take in a match between Rochdale and Exeter City. The reason being that Buster Phillips was our branch president and City had sent him out on loan back to his hometown club. About 30 of us rocked up at Rochdale’s clubhouse bar and we had the added bonus of the kick-off being delayed by 45 minutes IIRC due to the Exeter team coach getting stuck in traffic, giving us some extra drinking time pre-match. We went in the Exeter end which I think pissed off the Rochdale chairman because they’d agreed to put Levenshulme Blues on their digital advertising board for a short while!

The match was a non-event first half but we had a right laugh with the hundred or so Exeter fans, joining in with all their chants and stuff.

It started to get really interesting in the second half though. Exeter had a left-winger called Jimmy Gardner and he was playing on our side of the pitch. Every time he got the ball, someone started serenading him with all manner of songs. To the point that Gardner was even turning to the bloke and acknowledging him. I don’t think he could believe all this attention he was suddenly getting and believe me, it went on pretty much throughout the whole of the second half despite Exeter slumping to a 3-0 defeat.

Of course, there was only one person in that whole ground who could do such a thing - actually, the whole country even - and that person is Shez of course!

Hope you're good mate, despite What's going on with Shez.

Coming up with Mel on Monday. Picking up Jack from Ashton. Then Ian. Then Graham. Grahams having a tough time dealing with whats happening with his bessie Shez and hasnt been able to face going in, but talked him into it.

Be at the ward about 6ish. Be good to see you if you're planning on going in? Maybe have a beer after?

Thanks for posting Joe.

I know you were very close to him and it's difficult to process. Just try to stay positive. You've got shedloads of great memories of Shez, so fall back on those and think how lucky we all were to have known the man.

Take it easy r kid x

Lost my big brother to cancer last year . Travelled home and away together for years . I send my sympathies and best wishes to all family and friends who have posted in this amazingly cathartic thread for me .
He sounds like a truly outstanding character who unfortunately is becoming less common in this modern world of football .
Take solace in the fact that you can never take away the memories created and through city will always remain . Take care blues

Life is so cruel sometimes, my thoughts are with Shez, his amazing family and friends during this difficult time.
You've done him so proud and I'm sure he'll love you all forever......CTID.
