Craig "Shez" Shennan (sadly passed today 01/06)

I don't usually bother with social media , I'm an old school Blue who would still write a letter to the Pink if could .(ask your dad's young shavers) .I just had to thank everyone who as shown so much love towards Shez and family over these last few difficult months. I have million and one stories I could tell you about Shez since I first met him booting a cool football league 82 ball at my fence when he first moved to Benchill . I found out he was a blue and that was when our life long friendship began . We started going home and away over the next ten years getting chased through Birmingham with a 4 foot banana and Shez with grover
hanging off his hand , going in the Liverpool end and celebrating a David White offside goal nearly got us a proper kicking .
When we weren't following City we would go to a lot of gigs around town . A lot of you who know Shez well, know he liked to grab a quick nap now and again in bizarre places , but this night i lost him at Happy Mondays gig at GMex looking around I found him zonked out sprawled across a few seats , only Shez could fall asleep at a Mondays gig . Has we got a bit older and had kids morgages I toned it down a bit and stopped going away matches , Shez took it too an new level and started going England away games and pre season City tours of South Africa , China and America, but he would always come back and pop round for a about 5 brews and tell me and my lads about his latest adventure. I am sorry I have waffled on a bit but I have found it to hard get my head round the Legend is not going to come round and reminiss anymore. One last thing I was in his flat when he wrote to Karen Bradey it was true and she wrote back to him thanking him and sent him a Birmingham City Christmas card that year which we ripped the piss out of him for , she never popped round for a brew though. God bless you Shez you have left us with some great memories.

Maybe first game at home next season, we could sing some songs for him? How about he never missed a home and he never missed an away, he didn't care if we lost last week or we lost today, then not sure how to end it, because we don't give a fu*k sounds a bit wrong

No need to apologise - a great read and could have read something 5 times as long about him and it still would have been interesting

Taken back by the number of people who have got in touch for Shez’s tribute day, I’ve had over 70+ requests to play. It just reinforces how loved he was by every community he was a part of. Whether it be through decades at the Royal Mail where he has made so many friends, his various jobs making ends meet to follow his beloved blues or everyone he has touched through a life time of devotion to City and especially Baguley and Brooklands supporters which he did so much for .People like SHEZ don’t come along very often & are irreplaceable, it is a massive loss to all of us, not least his kids who he has been an inspirational father to. The least we could do was arranging this day to give back in some way after everything Shez gave us. Blues, reds, whoever met him loved the man. So with that said, we will be having an 11 a side match with one team managed by myself & Big Steve, playing the Blackboy managed by Trigger, we hope to have some City themed surprises too, to make sure all those who wish to get involved can play too, we have put on a 6 a side tournament on the adjacent pitch. We will have collections for donations at the matches, followed by an event back at the Blackboy pub with food, drink, raffles, football cards (Shez would love that) & entertainment for the kids too, see you there. Thanks to darrenbrady2
Trigger, the two joegreen
daz vesey ,Mel& all the others who have helped to make this happen, god bless you Shez x Craig Vincent Shennan Shez

Fantastic post mate. So many great memories you had with him, and dare I say after reading them they're typical of Shez. The more I think about it, the more I think he was an absolute one-off. No-one compares to him.

Loving the fact that he did indeed write to Karren Brady - not that I ever doubted it because it's him all over of course - but surprised she wrote back to him. Going off that time he finally met her in 2012, she didn't seem too friendly! Then again, I suppose she was technically working that day and didn't want to be mithered but it was funny as fuck seeing the look on her face!

The club should honour this incredible loyal fan with a statue near the ground so his legacy lives on he must be recorded and rewarded for such unwavering support i am sure city fans would contribute even if the club dont come up trumps for the lad my heart goes out to his family and all who knew him I have followed city since 1968 and consider myself to be a loyal fan but this lads support for city was on another lever RIP Big Man

Great post Nick, thanks for sharing your memories...and corroborating the @M18CTID story about Karren Brady - not that any of us doubted it...he he.

All these pages should be printed off put in an album and presented to his family not one bad word in 28 pages sums the man up
I’m sure they would take great pride in this one day
It's in hand mate, all will be collated and bound to present to the family when this thread has run its course...whenever that it, could be a long time!

You coming down to Firbank match day, not seen you since Bratislava :)

I am genuinely always amazed how football can bring people together. On many occasions, the camaraderie and support on here is incredible and there have been numerous times whilst reading some of the posts on this thread, a speck of dust has found its way into my eye!!!

I'm a very occasional away goer and have never had the pleasure of meeting Craig but if on my passing, I could recieve 10% of the warm wishes espoused on here, I'd be a lucky man. He sounds like a spectacular bloke and the absolute definition of a "superfan". I wish all of his family and friends nothing but the best.

RIP Blue!!!

It was never Craig if he had anything to do with ...... always just SHEZ !

R.I.P Shez, didn't know the Man that well but seen him at so many away games, a couple of Friends introduced me to Shez in Brugge and I had the pleasure of sitting outside a bar having a great chat with him, he was a Gentleman, great company and although small, I am glad now, reading so many stories of the Man, I had my moment with him,. God bless Shez, a True Blue and Deepest Sympathy to his Family and so many Friends...Rest Easy Shez..
