Good shout BoJ - Thing is, that the best songs played at Wigan Casino were well established classics that had already been played for years at the Wheel, Blackpool Mecca, the Torch, VaVa's, the Pendulum, Catacombs, Up the Junction, etc etc.

Russ Winstanley - Average at best; couldn't match Minshull / Levine / Curtis / Searling, who themselves were not in the same league as Martyn Ellis, Pep, and Alan Day.

Wigan Casino - Wildly overrated venue. A big venue that was probably no more than an easy cash-cow for RW et al. Best thing about the Casino was that it finally finished Levine off as a 'proper' NS DJ.

Oh dear... I've probably upset the Northern Soul bandwagon jumpers... (i.e. anyone who started post-1975) - Sorry chaps... enjoy your 'weekenders' in sunny Great Yarmouth etc!
 
The funny thing about the "northern soul revival" is that there are now more DJ's than punters.

This is because these guys went off and had their families, bought Phil Collins albums and then either got divorced or just fancied a change of scenery again.
Now with disposable income added to the mix they start buying original copies of everything they'd never fucking heard of in the first Place, then all of a sudden they are DJ's!!

One 'woman' accused my mate, who has deejayed since the early 70's, of being a disgrace cos he played a pressing, whereas her husband had spent a fortune on the original!
I'd have told her and her hubby to fuck off, fucking wannabes !

Shit records!

Anything that had Simon Soussan involved!

I am 29 and me and my mate who I went college with through my apprentiship got into northern soul through our teacher at college .We were about 18 at the time and got really into so we heard about a popular northen soul night in Prestwich.
So one night we went down expecting a good night bit of a drink bit of a dance and a decent night
Instead all we got was a load of middle aged fat cunts asking what the fuck were we doing there? We werent there in the 60s and 70s so we shouldnt be there now so get to fuck

and the beer was shit

That's the problem with that scene, but like I said earlier, most of those middle aged fat , baldy, cunts probably didn't support the scene during the lean years of the 80's!

I'm currently proof reading ''Sit Down, Listen To This'' The Roger Eagle Story and it is a great read, in how Eagle left the Twisted Wheel because of the rise of what became Northern Soul - Eagle was full on into the music, but the Northern Soul scene to him was just about fast beats and being shit faced on drugs!
