We really dropped the ball by letting Elano go AND not replacing him.

We have a playmaker. Ireland is capable of that role albeit he hasn't had a great season. Could do with another though.

What we need is someone who can play box-to-box and drive the team forward. Barry and De Jong offer fuck all in that respect. De Jong is superb at what he does which is essentially defending and Barry is too slow to ever be a real threat through the middle. Barry is only worthwhile having when he has players with some pace and drive around him like for England when he has Lampard and Gerrard.

with all due respect we need someone better than ireland IMO.

I think we all saw last night that this a priority signing. We have fairly good players in most positions even though some can and will be improved however we don't have a player who is the glue that links it all together. We were crying out for someone to unlock their defence with some accurate clinical passing but just ended up lobbing the ball forward hoping for something to happen. I'm obviously disappointed like everyone when it was so close and in our own hands but being a City fan I guess you almost expect it. A top class creative midfielder should be the first name on Mancini's wish list!

I disagree on the Barry bit. It's hard to notice what he does as it's all unspectacular, but he links up the play from the defence to the forwards. He doesn't do the big wunderpasses but short, simple and effective link up play.

Did you notice how our passing turned to shit once he went off.

However, I agree that what we have lacked all season is someone who can split defences apart, so most teams have come to Eastlands with a 10 man defence and we haven't had a clue what to do. But to the guy saying we miss Elano. He barely put in more effort than Robinho and was just as effective as him

we have missed him so much this season, just what we have needed.

Marek Hamsik form Napoli he's the boy to go after .

And no I haven't got him from Football Manager seen him he is a good player 23 years old and would relish Europa Cup action

This is exactly what we need. I said on another thread that Cahill would link our play up perfectly. In reply someone preferred Arteta. Any of them would do, just a pity they play for a club who will probably never do business with us again!

the right amount of money and they would

I think a lot of Moyes' beef was/is with Hughes rather than the club per se, anyway.

If only Michael Johnson could get and stay fit. I think he'd have a field day in our current team. Here's hoping for next season.
