Creative midfielder

Much as I like superman Stevie Ireland I think we need a top class creative midfielder in Jan window for the push into top 4. I would have said go for Arteta but after the Lescott deal I don't think Everton would consider selling to us. Any other suggestions bearing in mind MH's predilection for PL experienced players.

I mean sensible suggestions. I know we'd all like Gerrard, Lampard and Fabregas but we'd have more chance of signing Messi.

Not sure who we could go for who meets the criteria of class and PL experienced. Not too many that aren't already devoted to their current clubs (as you mentioned with Gerrard/Lampard etc). However seeing as 99.9% of the players MH has brought are PL experienced we can gamble on someone whos not. Three options we could look at are Marek Hamsik 22yr old Slovakian who plays for Napoli, Alan Dzagoyev 19yr old Russian for CSKA Moscow or Steven Defour 21yr old for Standard Liege all are quality creative midfielders and young enough to prove a good investment in the coming years.

Van Der Vaart, when he's ready to actually have playtime, and get back into the Dutch national team due to that. But he's apparently staying in Madrid till his wife gets all her cancer treatments done. He'd make such a good duo with De Jong.

Since we already have Ireland I think we, and Hughes, can gamble on a creative middfielder. I have said many times that it was a shame/mistake not to go for Arshavin or Diego which I believe could have been available. Sneijder was probably out of our reach. I, too, would go for someone young(ish) who wants to prove himself.

Misimovic from Wolfsburg or Özil from Bremen would be good options. However, we have to pay a premium on players who are key for their respective teams this season. No matter who we would go for, most teams will be very hesitant about letting go of their key players in the middle of the season.

only because he ain't 100% match fit atm. Guardiloa rates his along with messi as the clubs best player, he's not going anywhere
