So how does the petrol station / service station scam work exactly?

Not sure about all cases but I think sometimes machines are replaced with ones that store the info so that somebody else can access it once your'e gone.

My local petrol station ran a debit card scam,i was really lucky not to get done as lots of people did.2 were arrested and went to prison
My bank will call me sometimes as part of random checks on security and make sure i am the one using the card

My bank try that and I refuse to talk to them. I always say I have no idea who you are, if it's important put it in writing and I'll call in at my branch.

Had British Airways flights to NY bought using my card recently, took £3000+
I just phoned Halifax and they sorted it.

What I wonder is, could I say use your card right now to buy something for £100, delivered to a newsagent, verify my identity with a newly created sim phone contract (using fake ID)
But you're aware that I'm gonna do this scam so you contact your bank and they reinstate the £100
I then sell the item on eBay (using a fake account) and we split the profit... How could it be traced???

The same way ATM scans are done. They set up a card skimmer to sit between the card and laser machine and read the details when you yourself approve a transaction, they then make a clone card and use it to make transactions of their own. It's pretty easily done, especially because people tend to be more trusting of an indoor card machine within a shop than of an outdoor ATM.

This.

I had one ring me and I asked her for 2 letters from the password. Silence then "erm I'm from the bank we don't have a password."

In that case I'm not talking to you says I. You could be anybody.

You could hear the tumbleweed blowing in her empty head.

I know of a fella that pocketed over £200k a couple of years ago doing this.

He got caught glad to say, but it's so easy, there's places on the net these fraudsters can buy lists of details to use.
