Cressida Dick resigns

Hard to judge Cressida Dick’s performance because we never hear what she did well on the way up or what her strengths have been. Maybe the reporting deserves to be continually negative, it’s just unclear.

She was in charge of an operation where an innocent man was executed. That alone should have been the end of her police career. But it seems that there is no deterrent to being incompetent or even a criminal in the police force.

Unless you commit the ultimate crime of stealing a Jaffa Cake that is. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...paying-90p-too-little-for-charity-jaffa-cakes

Talk of her assistant taking over the role? The guy who has gone along with all the bad decisions - thats rag manager recruitment style - sack one and recruit the assistant into the top job and wonder why nothing much changes.

To effect proper change to an organisation you need to bring someone in to shake it up - like we did with Mancini and Pep - just giving it to the next in line won't get the progress that is needed.

Slightly less transparent than Javid’s brother taking over.

I saw a comment in the last few days that the obvious replacement is viewed as outspoken politically, and that the govt avoided dismissing Dick while they found someone else.

Dick had lost the confidence of her official and unofficial bosses so her position was untenable. Probably a good time to get out before her actions would either end Bono’s premiership or extend it.

She must have done some good work on the way up
but we may never hear about that.
