How is Leach the best spinner in England?Captain marvel has bowled Robinson into the ground.
Worst of all we need wkts and the field is spread.
Leach is a bang average county player. Nothing great but will bowl a lot of overs. Offers nothing really BUT he's a nice guy who turns up and doesn't complain when he's left out.
Honestly the suits need to look at the county game if they want to improve the test side. Problem is they're not interested because it's all about T20 and the Hundred.
That was evident when the final of the County Championship was being played in October.

We shouldn’t be picking any spinner and tell Root your are spinner so get practicing more and bowling more!

This is the 90’s all over again where we were fucking terrible and the men in suits all braindead.

Leach was jettisoned from the Test team all summer and Moeen Ali was rehabilitated before announcing his retirement. Players were given rotation out of the team all last winter so that they would be fit and fresh for the Ashes. Can’t beat a bit of planning…

He's going along at 8.5 an over. Piechucking standard!

I never said he was the answer, merely pointed out the idiocy of those building a squad for this tour. Ali was taken apart in the last tour to Australia, and spin has been a fiasco since Swann retired. People are quick to point the finger at the batting weaknesses but too little attention has been paid to the bowling unit.

Didn't mean to suggest you have - you're right, of course.

Sorry, didn’t mean to sound snippy. :-)

Haven’t watched or listened to it, but I’d be surprised if England can recover from this start. It’s sadly predictable and will ultimately lead to Root resigning his captaincy in January and someone else leading the team to the West Indies. However, the problems with the Test set up run far deeper than Root, who arguably remains England’s best batsman, and won’t be resolved by a change at the head.

He can be the spinner once he has relinquished the captaincy............

And he has only bowled 11 overs!!!

Obvious Australia were going to look to take him out of the attack to effectively cripple the rest of the bowling lineup.

I don't think people are being smart arses when they say that they saw this test coming or how it has panned out............

Good use of the term 'snippy'......... ;-)

Bottom line these England players have played no cricket!

I’d go for all our attacking batters fuck if burns fuck of Hameed and tell our batters go for them attack them that’s how we beat them in 2005 you have to play positive against the Aussies not this software block shite!

Pleasantly surprised that I didn’t wake up to 350-2 or 3 with one (or both) of Smith and Labuschagne not out on a huge score.

But Travis Head hitting an 85 ball century takes the cake. I saw him as a weak link.

Leach’s figures are a joke. We’re better off going in with four front-line seamers and using Root sparingly in Australia.

Yep, and England have helped the crippling by picking Stokes.

England had the Aussies at 236 for 6? Say that again? And then they let them off the hook, and are now in a position where the follow-on in the first match of the series is possible?
It is truly staggering how often England have had their foot on the Australians' neck over the years, and then taken it off again. It has happened not once, but dozens and dozens of times over the last thirty years.

The "rest and rotation" policy for England has been a joke all year hasn't it?

I know we've played some decent teams in 2021 but it looks like we're going to win 1 series out of 5.

If you'd asked anyone 12 months ago (even 24 months ago) who would be playing for Australia in this Ashes series no doubt everyone would have mentioned Warner, Labuschagne, Smith, Lyon, Cummins, Hazelwood, Starc.

The first test vs India in August England started Burns, Sibley, Crawley, Root, Bairstow, Lawrence, Buttler, Curran, Robinson, Broad, Anderson. Only 4 of that team are playing in this test. I know you play a team for the conditions but surely all this chopping and changing is just demonstrating that we don't really have a clue who our best team is? I think the majority on here love Root as a batsman and rate him as a spinner but know he's a limited captain, but really, who is going to consistently play enough to replace him?

White ball cricket has killed the county and test game in our country as the players are only interested in the money now
