You could also debate whether Woakes would be better than Archer with the new ball as his movement is more pronounced.
Then bring Archer on to speed things up as first change
Absolutely.
Woakes might be unplayable in these conditions & genuine pace might be unplayable. We have discovered neither.
Root is not a captain imo & might be a better batsman without it.

Bowling bouncers makes the ball deteriorate quicker and so teams will try to use the natural movement and swing to get openers out before reverting to chin music.
