Would be unfair to expect much of Leach and Jimmy with the bat but even if they can hang around for half an hour or so and get 20-25 runs it can make a difference as it's so tight. Sri Lanka presumably will ideally want to declare and get us back in before close so we need to both get wickets and keep the run rate down. Surviving a final day on that pitch looking for 250-300 to win/draw is a tough ask, Root excepted.. if he has anything left in the tank. Unbelievable knock and a cruel way to be ended but it was top fielding.

Chasing anything more than 200 will be hard maybe better for Sri Lanka to set the total than getting them all out for 250.

I’ve always had Root pegged as a very good batsman but a bit of a soft twat as ever it’s reassuring to know I was wrong, two innings of different skill sets the second being by far the best, unless you’ve been to the sub continent it’s difficult to imagine the toll the heat and humidity takes, played Mr Root.
