What absolute twaddle modern cricket ‘analysts’ talk. His ‘processes’ were wrong and his ‘trigger moments’ need addressing. Give me strength.
It’s the way they talk about them. If they simply said it’s a batsman’s idiosyncratic way of getting into their perfect position to face a ball, it would be easier for the viewer to understand.

It does, however, show how much mental strength you need to bat. Get out cheaply a few times and then start tinkering with technique, which, more often than not, makes them worse.

They really started using these terms because of Smith‘s idiosyncrasie, but it’s now used with everyone, no matter if the guy doesn’t know the handle from the blade. Randall was a proper fidget but served England well. Vaughan is often the worst for such expressions and because he’s been appearing on all platforms it’s fed into more of their parlance.

It simply shows that every player’s perfect technique is different. I guess they have to chat constantly for 6 hours, which can’t be easy!

The English middle order is so frustrating. We have some real talent in there but too often they have moments of absolute insanity and lose their wicket. Bairstow out in the 30s...standard. He is a better player than that I'm sure of it, but he just doesn't show it at test level. He clearly struggles to maintain the concentration/mentality. It's the same for Moeen. Such a classy player to watch and repeatedly throws his wicket away.

We need a lead of 100 at least to win this test batting 4th in my opinion. Woakes is handy with the bat, not got the best record with it at the Oval mind. Could do with him and Pope sticking a 50 partnership together to get us up to 100. This session is probably the game. To bowl first on this and get them for 190 we should have been looking at a lead of at least 150.
