I can tell you what Rafiq has to say, he says "He's beyond disappointed and incredibly hurt" that Root is claiming he heard no racism.
Maybe just maybe Root didn’t hear anything?

Roots not denying it happened, just he personally didn’t see it.

Why would Rafiq be incredibly hurt and beyond disappointed at Joe Root if he didn't know Root had seen/hear something? Why would he say "uncomfortable truths are hard to accept"

Seriously the mental gymnastics here to pretend he wasn't in the dressing room when all this was happening is embarrassing.

You are not seriously so stupid as to be using the Yorkshire CCC definition of upheld?

They didn't uphold that calling him a Paki or asking if his uncle owned a cornershop was racist.

I don't know which allegations were upheld and which weren't as TBH I just read the summary of the independent report. But I'm not stupid !

No examples of incidents then? I would expect him to remember some where Root was involved or witnessed a racist incident ? As I said lets wait and see what comes out of the woodwork?

Or do you want Root to resign now and never play for England again? Care to explain what it is your after Domalino?

Seriously the mental gymnastics here to pretend the bloody captain of the club wasn't in the dressing room when all this was happening is embarrassing.

You’ve already found him guilty regardless of what he did or didn’t hear.

I hope you never get asked to be on a jury.

I doubt he's going to start listing incidents on twitter, and will instead save everything for the DCMS hearing next week.

What would I like to happen? I would like there to be no racism in English cricket, I'd like the executives involved in suppressing the report or deciding blatant racism was banter to protect YCCC's reputation to be removed from their positions, players/staff who racially abused and bullied Azeem Rafiq until he was suicidal to face consequences and I'd like the people who watched it happen and tolerated it to cop to that and learn from it.

And I'd quite like the ECB to investigate all the other counties to make sure this isn't widespread.

I can't understand why some people are so desperate to pretend nothing's happened, or why Rafiq is still being doubted.

Hearing 2 people say something, then deciding which one you believe is literally how juries have worked for hundreds of years.
Not with zero specifics of what he may have been privy to.

When was Root Yorks captain by the way?

Root's been really shit through this entire thing.

When it happened, he didn't back his friend or support him when people were casting aspersions, he just said it's sad to see Rafiq upset and I hope it's over quickly.

Then he stayed silent when the report was leaked. When the sponsors left. When the parliamentary commission was announced. When half the board resigned. When Lord Patel was brought in. When his best mate Gary Ballance got named and shamed. When the captain was suspended. When more former players came out and made accusations.

All the while, people were asking where was Yorkshire's captain in all this. No real support for Rafiq and say he believed him, nothing to suggest he'd use his status at the club to help sort things out. Nothing to even reassure the Yorskhire fans.

Root's made a target for his own back with this incredibly conspicuous silence, and then when he finally said something and was asked if he heard any racist stuff while at the club, he couldn't have sounded more guilty.

The one thing that was protecting him was Rafiq saying a few times that Root was a very good friend, so him now expressing shock and disappointment with Root's public answers has removed that shield an put him in the trouble he probably should have been in sooner.

After all, who is more responsible for dressing room culture than the captain?

spot on

i don't see root being england captain much longer with now Rafiq saying he is unhappy with root's response in turning a blind eye to it. maybe the media will hold fire until the ashes or until we lose them then let the shit hit the fans and give root the push or he stands down

this is never going away until everybody involved with Yorkshire at the time have been taken away from their roles in cricket and roots is a walking time bomb on both levels
