Convicted of the attack, and it is worse than one discriminatory comment in his entire career.

Boycott saying he would be knighted if he 'blacked up' was pretty recent.

Plus like a lot of proud Yorkies, he is a Man Utd fan.
Boycott won the appeal didn’t he?

No. Just tells everyone he is innocent.
I’ve just been reading about it, you’re right he didn’t win the appeal.

It’s one of those that’s got evidence either side.
the doctors said there’s no way she could have had those injuries by falling on a carpet (boycott’s version of events) but then an investigative piece in the Telegraph claimed Moore admitted to a friend she was bankrupt and seeking money and had done it on a marble floor by falling.

Who knows.

To be honest there were rumours that Paine was 'considering' his position after the India series, so I'm surprised they've left it so late, regardless of the text.

It’s a private family matter and I fail to see how it affects his ability as a cricketer or as a captain?

It was dealt with 3 years ago but seemingly it was about to be made public. Don't think it affects his ability as a captain, questionable as that is, more to do with the inevitable noise that it will bring.
Given that he is going to be up before the media for the majority of the next couple of months it's probably a wise move.

Boycott was an alleged wife beater and probably not a very pleasent person but as far as I can recall he was never associated with racism.
He once used racist language in a commentary session ,England v Pakistan. His co commentator coughed and made some comment,I cannot recall exactly what but he sounded very uncomfortable. Boycott replied in an indignant tone " that's what they are called".
