i would go with a strong hand from the ECB board and say to the players. if you turn down the tour to the west indies over the IPL then you banned for 2 years from test cricket simple. you then see who is in test cricket for the right reasons.

the ECB have to build again for that series and take a fresh and young squad with a new captain.
so what if we lose ? it could not get any worse than what is happening in austraila ? i think the english fans would take losing with a new young team than seeing the old farts scared of bounce and beaten before they walk out
Still think they’ll stick with Root for the West Indies and maybe even New Zealand. There simply is no shoo-in to replace him. Amongst others, Bairstow, Woakes, Stokes, and Malan will probably have to decide where their futures lie, Livingstone, too. Do they commit to Test cricket or head off to the IPL? Because of the overlapping of the two three-Test series, the ECB can apply a little pressure to its players, but then it probably has to go with them for the duration of the summer. Give them six games and then see what is needed for the South Africans. If they play Hameed, Crawley, Malan, Root, Pope, Foakes, then I think they have a potentially solid batting unit, but it’s the bowling department that would have me more concerned. Australia have been deliberately declaring in matches to show up the weaknesses of the attack, and that has to be addressed.

what a chance for the ECB to show their future intent to test cricket with a new team and captain
every single one of the team in the ashes have had countless chances and failed in test cricket and enough should be enough. joe root only stays in the test team because of the runs and his captaincy is very poor at best.

would love to see youth given a chance and even it means losing for a year or so. what harm could it do to test cricket in england because we are a laughing right now

new coach. new captain. new players. new direction.

The ECB has never shown itself quite as radical as that, though, has it? You rarely get such a root and branch overhaul (no pun intended), and it’s hard to see so many of this team being discarded on the back of this series, no matter how calamitous it‘s been. I just don’t think they’ll have the gumption to sack Root, not when he’s been their best player, and not when we don’t know if he’s psychologically drained the well. If he chooses to resign after Hobart, then fair enough, but I’ve still not seen a serious name thrown up as a replacement.

you can still use root as a batsman and let somebody else have a go ?
the ECB have not got nowhere to hide this time because of 2017 and now 2022 its enough and fans will walk away

they have to do something and its not just the ashes but england have been shit for a good year or so ? we should not be losing home test to anybody and last summer it was shocking. i don't get how players keep getting away with it. they have had countless chances and still get pick for central contracts and do nothing ?

if you took the ODI and 20/20 setup and results away england would be on par with ireland and scotland

I'm sorry, but Hammed, hasn't got what it takes for test cricket. His presence at the crease is a joke. He'll never impose on the bowlers and these Aussie bowlers must look at him and laugh. 6 stone wet through, with body guards that are too big for him.
