The ECB has a lot to answer for.
We need: clear out at the ECB So they are committed to the red ball gamea, new team to run England, massive improvements in coaching at county level: hasn't anyone ever told Crawley to pick the length?
Just desperate.

5-9 and 7-22 so far in the match is quite something from Mayers.

Roach, Holder and Mayers seem to not bowl rubbish and don't concede runs. Tremendous control.

Mayers bowls like Boycott. Just wobblers but they defeat our batsmen.

Root has to go and the ECB needs to ensure that the red ball game is treated with the same importance the white ball is currently given although I fear that horse has bolted and isn’t ever coming back.

That said, other countries and their players manage to focus on both so maybe we just need staff and players who can just fucking apply themselves correctly.

Bottom of the Test playing table is an utter embarrassment.

Whilst appreciating a captain is only as good as the attack he has the decision to leave Jimmy and Broad at home was baffling.If you have better then fine we have Robinson and Wood who have something about them but are injury prone.That is on Root.you cant blame him for the poor application of his fellow batsmen.
However the way he lets games drift and his awful field settings tell anyone with eyes what a piss poor captain he is.We need a tactical captain i know i will be ridiculed again for saying James Vince but there is no alternative.
Oh and it is obvious we have to prioritise the red ball game now.

I agree about Vince. Always plays well for 20 and gets out BUT there's definitely something there.
Crawley isn't an opener, he's too loose.
Stokes is a 6. I'd get Ollie Pope in also. I know he's had a fair few chances but he's better than both Lawrence and Crawley.

I think England are 100 for 8 now, I wouldn’t say the Windies are a poor team, imo there an inexperienced team with a few rough diamonds and a good captain in Holder. England are the better team absolutely, but it’s sport and anything can happen on the day or over 3/4 days, City losing to Palace prime example.

Crawley looks a player but like all top batsman coming into the test arena you have to learn and know when to put a shot away.

Da Silva for West Indies put every shot away that was risky apart from the rank bad balls, not until his team was comfortable he played more shots.

Holder excellent. I don't think we are better than them. More talent maybe, but very poorly captained and somewhat disorganized. Batting collapses appalling, they don't adhere to test match principles such as crease occupation, so their shot selection is random at best or simply irresponsible.
