Surrey win by an innings and 17 runs. Quite good going to bowl Hampshire out twice in three days after losing Roach.

Assuming Kent don’t collapse his evening, Lancashire should wrap up the points at Canterbury tomorrow.

Compton carried his bat for a century in first innings for Kent and has now watched 6 wickets go down at the other end. I wonder if anyone has carried their bat in both innings.

Bill Woodfull did it in test cricket
Two separate matches wasn’t it? I don’t think it’s been done in one test match yet. It has been done 4 times in English first class though, the last being SJ Cook for Somerset v Notts in 1989. One other time it happened but it was different openers carrying their bat.

Tom Haines at sussex is a very exciting player to keep an eye on. Just got a double century which should save the game against Derbyshire and is also the sussex captain at just 23. Haines was also the leading run scorer in the county championship last season. A real talent imo

Hoping he will get a chance to open the batting for England in the very near future.

James bracey also is in fantastic touch for Gloucestershire, bracey made his debut against New Zealand but was handled appallingly so hoping he gets a better go at it in the summer.

Fully agree with you.
I picked Haines in my radical New England team a few pages back.
Bracket is another talent.

It’s a shame we have about 15 really good keepers and hardly any bowlers or batsmen.

I don’t think the bowling is that bad personally just have a lot of injuries. Archer, stone, wood, Robinson, Sam Curran, mahmood are all pretty decent imo
woakes at home is very good and i am sure broad and Anderson will come back in for the summer tests.

We do need a spinner however, hopefully parkinson gets a chance this summer or we can tempt Rashid back to red ball cricket,

Re the batting we have some players coming through, the likes of Haines, bracey, Lawrence, Crawley, Compton, Pope (personaly think he will be very good once he regains confidence) could even argue for Livingstone to be given a chance as a bit of an X factor. Personally If everyone was fit I’d like to see the below team.

Haines/Compton
crawley
root
lawrence
stokes (captain)
pope
bairstow (wk)
archer
wood/Robinson
parkinson/rashid
anderson/broad

Don’t think that’s a terrible side with the likes of broad, Robinson, stone, bracey, woakes, mahmood in and around the squad. I’d go with bairstow as wk as I don’t believe foakes with the bat is good enough and I think bairstow is a pretty serviceable keeper.

Problem is getting our bloody bowlers fit! With rob key getting the big job I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see billings and compton involved early on

Decent bowlers, but once Broad and Anderson go, we don’t have anybody remotely close to being able to replace them, as the last couple of tours suggested.

Crawley and Lawrence seem to be too loose to become fixtures in test cricket, but they may tighten their techniques.

Pope could be class, but his shoulder is an ongoing issue.
