I've only seen him against Lancs but Compton looked a very good player, 4 centuries this season compared to Crawley's 0. They both play for the same team, face the same bowlers on the same wickets, Compton looks far superior technically. Crawley just isn't an opening bat, doesn't have the technique to open the batting, he's a middle order batsman for me.. Haines at Sussex looks to have a bright future, only 23, captain's the team, and looks a good player. Just a couple who haven't been picked before..
Compton is a latecomer to cricket. He’s 28 and only played 15 first class games in his life.

He‘s definitely worth watching, but it seems incredibly early to suggest he’s a test batsman.

I don't agree that there is nobody to replace Crawley for a start.

His average in first class cricket is 30, and 28 in test Cricket, that's bobbins for a top order batsman.

He's not even the best opener at Kent, let alone in England.
I’m a Kent fan and I see your point about Crawley. But he’s shown glimpses of promise as we saw in his double ton against Pakistan and the 80 odd against Australia. I think England are trying to invest in him and Pope, who has also struggled for quite some time at test level despite his obvious talent.

I can’t comment on Compton. It’s probably a bit too soon to fast track him into the test team though.

Alan Harper's Tash

What you are proposing would set the team back another 10 years, not improve it.

We pick a bad team because there is nobody to replace them.

Playing the under 19s would destroy most of them and we’d get hammered in every game.

I hope Overton has better mugshots available for his media photos.

Giving everybody a chance with a bit more talent in county cricket should be the way forward ? I would rather see little progress than none at all, sometimes chucking somebody in at the deep end works with showing fight like ducks to water

I just don't understand what they are trying to do with this squad or the squad that went to the west indies ?
OK we all know jimmy and broad will take wickets in the summer, but that is the trouble for me ? It's just papering over the cracks with NO future in the foundations

am no expert in the game of cricket, but give me 3 to 5 years as director of the ECB and I guarantee we would be far better at test cricket both home and away

We lose in 2 days in every match, rather than narrowly losing a series.

That is funny ??
yes at the start it could be ugly I give you that, but you soon find out who are the men from the boys
that is the lesson of learning from defeat ? It's not always about having the skill and talent ? but fight and desire and willing to learn and dig deep

Ah, so you’re a dogs of war man rather than a Pepball disciple.

Crawley will always look good when he gets runs, just doesn't get enough of them consistently. His One Day average is far superior to his first class or test average's.

He’s ill-disciplined outside off stump by constantly wafting at deliveries he should be leaving alone. He’s another that would probably fare better in the middle order.

James Vince is one of the most aesthetically pleasing players to watch in England but he’s guilty of getting out once he’s got in.

Expect the county championship, to go to three, six team division's in the next few years.

I watched an interview with Rob Key. His proposal is two top division's A and B, 10 games with the two winners playing off for the title.

Bottom of A and B relegated, with the top two from division two promoted.

He needs 12 of the 18 county's to vote it through.
