I promise you if we swapped stokes and Crawley it’d be better. Wont happen and I’m pissed up at the ground so probably talking shit ha ha

So, you beg the inevitable question.

For who? Buttler?
I'd almost take Douglas Bader at this stage. Not an avid follower of the county scene, outside of Lancashire of course, so I wouldn't be up to speed on the up and coming contenders. As for Buttler, I'm not sure he's a test player. He seems more suited to the limited over stuff. Mind you, looking at the way we played against the Kiwis, he could be an option after all!

There aren’t many that haven’t already been tried.

Burns,
Stoneman,
Robson,
Sibley,
Hameed
etc

Maybe give Burns another shot. He's averaging 32 in tests. Not great, granted. But Crawley is averaging 26. But the latter has a better SR, which may be the way England want to go forward under Stokes and McCullum.

Lies, damned lies and statistics, eh?

I forgot about Compton at Kent. He had a blistering start this season, but has dropped off a bit. Quite inexperienced too, but maybe worth a shot.

Harry Brook needs to get in the side soon, too.
