Wise choice by Stokes keep to test match cricket and 20/20 50 over game is to long now!

I love Test Matches and 20/20 the 50 over game I’m starting to lose interest!

Already pulled out of the 16.4, now 50 over cricket.

Who could have predicted Stokes burning out if he took the captaincy?!

Not a surprise is it. It was always going to be too much to play all formats, when he has such huge expectations on him as a player as well. He gives every game absolutely everything, dynamic in the field, bowling and batting. It was always going to take its toll. I'd imagine he thinks about stopping T20I after the World Cup as well...we'll have to see what he does with the IPL!

He hurt his knee again yesterday, so that might be part of the decision - just to give it more rest time. He's 31, so quite a lot of wear and tear.

I think the natural thing for Stokes would be to retire from test cricket and concentrate on franchise 20/20 to maximise earnings.

Making him captain has probably prolonged his test career, but he could go at any time.

You can't retire from ODIs but continue to play T20Is according to the ECB. I suppose they have changed their policy?
