It's not that hard, really. We've fallen off a cliff talent wise. It's not easy to be a top class international batsman and we have under appreciated really good players this past decade. Apart from a nice purple patch, Ian Bell spent his entire career fighting off the critics, but what would to have him in there now? KP the same. Flintoff the same. Strauss, Treschotic, Vaughan, Troutt etc. Some of the best this country has ever had all retired in a few years.
I just find it hard to believe that we've had all of these players over the years yet suddenly slumped to this? surely coaches haven't changed or opportunities etc. maybe time for a change of coach, fair play he's turned the one day stuff on it's head but the longer format has gone so far backwards it's worse than when he took over

How many of the current England side would get into the Ashes ‘05 team?

If memory serves me correctly, the team generally lined-up something like this:

Strauss
Trescothick
Vaughan
Pietersen
Bell
Flintoff
G Jones
Giles
Hoggard
Harmison
S Jones

I’d say Root, Bairstow and possibly Cook and Anderson - but they both look past it.

This is the weakest England batting line-up I’ve seen in quite some time. Malan, Stoneman and Vince look like good players but their records are mediocre at best. And I’m not convinced Stokes should be in the England team purely as a batsman. Is he really one of the best six batsmen in the country?

Did well to recover from that start. Leech is a top top bowler believe me. Should have been in the ashes team. Time to move on though with this team and time to play a few 'one day' players. If you're a top player your a top player, no matter what the situation. We need to move on from this specialist bull shit. Bairstow has everything and could open if Butler comes back in. Just tell Butler to bat like a one dayer.

Roy
Bairstow
Hayles
Root
Malan
Stokes
Butler
Rashid/Woakes
Wood
Leech
Anderson

just no.

I agree it looks a bit mental but we really don't have anyone in county cricket good enough to bat in the top order. At least with players that are used to playing for England we might not shit ourselves everytime we loose a wicket. These are players that are used to winning in an England team. Maybe Stoneman deserves to stay in so we can move Bairstow to 4/5 but seriously, Balance, Cook (unfortunately now), Westley, Vince? Sorry they are just not good enough or past it. Butler can take a game away from any team in half an hour. Rashid takes wickets. It helps as a spinner. Maybe Broad stays in but has he the fight he used to have? Would love to know who you think should bat 1,2,3,4

Fuck me biggest overreaction ever in human history, Warner looks a broken man lol
It's just ball tampering. People are acting like it's spot fixing or something genuinely corrupt. Also people love to overreact atop their ivory towers don't they?

Refused to answer questions about if anyone else knew about the ball tampering apart from him, Smith and Bancroft. He could of easily said no but didnt. Looked to me like him wanted to say something but has been told not to

What a crap actor that Warner is...not genuine at all. When I watched Steve Smith you could feel his utter despair and the terrible state he was in. This guy Warner is just a repulsive character.

Agreed completely. The bigger problem for cricket is why they felt they needed to do it in the first place. They were playing at Newlands which is a beautiful venue but the last Test that England played there yielded about 1500 runs for about 15 wickets. That's the bigger problem for cricket. If players want to rough the ball up a bit (even though foreign objects is a step too far), the umpires shouldn't be warning them every 10 minutes. If not, you've either got to introduce the new ball a lot sooner (e.g. after 60 overs) because overs 30-80 are normally a batting paradise and games that don't provide a fair contest between bat and ball are far more responsible for people losing interest in cricket than any ball tampering is.

So Warner has just dropped half the team and management in it with his press conference and later statement. Gonna be explosive when he's allowed to say what he wanted to. Reckon his autobiography will be being written right now to be released in 12 months.
