Not with zero specifics of what he may have been privy to.

When was Root Yorks captain by the way?

Oh you're right. I thought he took over when Gale (now coach suspended for being racist) left, but that was Ballance (the guy who's now admitted to being regularly racist to Azeem Rafiq)...Root's BFF.

Wow there sure was a lot of racism around that Joe missed!

It’s not enough for Root to acknowledge it happened and say changes need to be made (of course and sensible).

The fact he didn’t witness it makes him guilty now.

This is the bizarre world we live in.

I never witnessed racism in the workplace, guess I am guilty too?

Anyway, fair fucks to Aus there, great chase and the end and Wade did awesome.

your missing the whole point ? if a player has a problem with racism he goes to the captain first.
you don't take it to the top table like the chairman without involving the captain that's not how it works.
so root must have been the first person Azeem Rafiq talked to about it and if root done nothing about it and turned a blind eye then its even worst in my book and should step down right away in both england and yorkshire captain roles

i feel Azeem Rafiq protected root in all of this because of being his so close friend ? but now roots said he's did not heard or seen nothing ? will be his down fall

To be fair I double checked and Wikipedia said Root 2014 but everything else Gale.

I think Root may have captained one or two games by the looks of it.

Ballance is the one I have sympathy with (that’s looking guilty of it).

Sounds like he got derogatory terms back from Rafiq and they exchanged it as mates.

Doesn’t make it alright and it sounds like more Yorkshire players completely crossed the line, Vaughan included.

Root wasn’t captain.

Gale was.

Gale was.

i don't know the full inns and out of this but root being questioned about it so he must have been involved in some part of the setup at yorkshire. for him to come out and say he heard nothing is a joke and wrong ?

Yeah he was a player during that time.

How can we possibly know what he heard or didnt?

England have been really unlucky with injuries, losing Roy and Mills was a blow, but not as big as Stokes or Archer unavailable to be in the squad. I still think England are the best white ball outfit with a full squad. The one thing I couldn't fathom was Livingstone down to bat at 6 or 7 every game, he can be absolutely destructive if given a chance to build an innings, he should have batted 3 or at worst 4. Good luck NZ in the final.

I doubt he's going to start listing incidents on twitter, and will instead save everything for the DCMS hearing next week.

What would I like to happen? I would like there to be no racism in English cricket, I'd like the executives involved in suppressing the report or deciding blatant racism was banter to protect YCCC's reputation to be removed from their positions, players/staff who racially abused and bullied Azeem Rafiq until he was suicidal to face consequences and I'd like the people who watched it happen and tolerated it to cop to that and learn from it.

And I'd quite like the ECB to investigate all the other counties to make sure this isn't widespread.

I can't understand why some people are so desperate to pretend nothing's happened, or why Rafiq is still being doubted.
No issue with any of the above? But my question was specifically about Root wasn't it? !

He should have opened instead of Bairstow but only my opinion.

Can’t have, it’s impossible, the mob have already made their mind up.
It would seem the witch hunt is well and truly on.
Culture war tropes infest the cricket forum is there no safe haven:)

All that has happened here is that Rafeeq has ridiculed Joe's piss weak statement where, unless I'm missing the full transcript, he doesn't even refer to him by name. They came through the Yorkshire system together along with a certain Gary Ballance who just last week admitted to, and apologised for routinely referring to Rafeeq by the p word. The idea that he had no idea is ludicrous and if he had reflected that in his statement I doubt there would be an issue.
This is a sideshow and should be moved to the relevant thread IMO. Root is not up before the DCMS and by my reckoning is not in the dock until the January post-Ashes spanking root and branch reform hearing.

This is worth a read

The two best teams lost the toss on lost the match, sadly that’s no great surprise.

Fingers crossed the aussies lose the toss in the final then.

England and Pakistan were both in decent positions though, just bowled poorly at the death, and some top batting. If that Pakistan fielder holds the catch they are big favourites, wade then takes 18 from 3, a new batsman isnt doing that.

Culture wars?

I couldn’t give a fuck about politics, I’m defending Joe Root who isn’t guilty and there’s no evidence he did hear anything.

We don’t know whether Root is guilty of anything or not. He says he isn’t.

Arsene Wenger didn’t see most of the decisions that went for him on the field according to him. It doesn’t make it truthful.

I think Root knows that it went on. Whether he has physically heard it or not doesn’t change the fact he is potentially implicit or not.

The problem we’ve got here is people pointing fingers and talking about stuff they don’t know about.
