Yeah pope goes we probably end up with what I predicted India would chase 150/160! Pope stays in for the first session we will get around 200 will it be enough will depend on if India get nervous! After 40 overs it gets easier to bat and India will get 200 Easley if they don't lose 6 wicket for 80 runs or something!

England showed though what a lot on here didn't believe we had in us fight battle bottle..

Me included, I questioned the bottle and the mental of the players wanting to fight for the badge.
Yes, Pope showed bottle and skill plus the fight with most of the team, So if you get out to a good ball then all you say is ok well bowled, But in the first innings I thought we rolled over far to easy and give wickets away

Like most sports, all you want to see is some fightback, Win Lose or Draw fans can take that if your giving 100%
I don't think it will be enough in this test to get something out of it like a win, but going forward we have to take the same attitude going into the next 4 test and then nobody can moan

To a point the result is irrelevant as I don't think we can get rid of them cheaply enough but I think it's a huge sway in what the team can achieve with the bat.

I'm still pretty bouyed (how the fuck do you spell it?) by their resolve - Pope was outstanding and I really enjoyed Foakes support.........

Good fightback today, 126 ahead now. But they'll need a minimum of 300 to make a game of it. Can the last 4 wickets get the score up to that point? Can't see it myself. India still in control of the game.

Problem is if we added another 170 they'll get them easily as it's clearly doing nowt!
FWIW I suspect it'll all be over by tea tomorrow.
But, like others have said, there's been some huge positives today.

England won the first Test in 2021 so there is no need for pessimism. Some of England’s problems are rather self-inflicted, such as assimilating Foakes again after discarding him and fielding two inexperienced spinners, which, if you couple with Stokes’ strange field placement, bowling changes, and reckless reviewing, suggests there are still reasons to be confident; England also have Pope returning after a long layoff. If England gel and learn quickly, they can, as we have seen in this Test, make the series competitive.
I'm far from pessimistic, I'm often the one banging the drum trying to hold onto the positive on this thread, this is 2024 not 2021 and if you took a look our bowling line up entering this test match and thought, yes we have a great chance here , I'd suggest either a visit to the Dr's or watching another sport

That's the key to going forward with huge positives, But it can not be just one innings by Pope and the rest just turns off and think somebody else we turn up in the next 4 tests to bail England out of a big whole, We need to show fight and value your wicket at all costs, if you bat properly stay at the crease for a length of time and don't do silly things you can score loads of runs.

Getting a result is not really on the cards But you just never know, The damage from the 1st innings will probably cost England, But for future reference, Going into a first test cold is not a good idea in India or anywhere else

I’ll pop along to the doctors if you‘ll pop along to the opticians. I clearly stated that England limited their chances, amongst many things, by fielding two inexperienced spinners in this Test (no idea why one was opening the bowling with the new ball). My point was that England will need to gel quickly and learn quickly if they want to compete on this tour. I think they can, though whether the bowling attack will be strong enough to win even two matches is debatable.

Agreed. It’s high time all visiting Test teams were afforded the same respect and given the opportunity first to play the country’s A team on a pitch that will be representative of what they will face in the actual Tests. No point turning up in India and playing a side with no spinners on a flat track. Same respect should be extended to teams visiting England. If that were the case, ‘training camps’ and ‘team building’ in Abu Dhabi would be superfluous.
