They (Aussies) will not play as badly in the next test match with their batting, Khawaja got over 200 runs in the test match on his own the rest was poor, England needs to think long and hard about the wicket-keeper and Stokes as a bowling option at Lords, Yes we will go without a spinner and play 4 main seam bowlers, so Stokes plays higher up the batting line up and maybe Brooks misses out

Aussies played to the best ability it was us who wasn’t at our best!

Also don’t need root dancing down the pitch when he is well set in 2nd innings, that has never been his strength and he is too good to give his wicket away. Between that and the early declaration root probably had another 70 runs in him alone.

Do we all believe in BAZBALL Cricket, Did it cost us the first test, Yes
Did Stokes's early declaration cost us the game, Yes
Are the Ashes over for England Yes

I know 100% what Geoffrey Boycott would make of it, He hates losing to the Aussies

Think that’s what we have to do better choose the right shot and execute better Root pope and Brooks need to improve that..

I think England will drop Ali and bring in Wood, with Root taking on the spin duties. Anderson will be smarting at not having been thrown the ball so will be desperate to play.

I think Jimmy felt 40 for the first time in Cricket, he must be ready to step down for the greater of the team and hand over to somebody else, All it takes is one little injury at his age and you are fighting father time,

I didn't see it as a poor declaration. What was poor was allowing them to get within 7 runs of our total when they were 67/3. Bowling attack not there yet...Broad superb but a rare poor show by Jimmy, Stokes was never going to bowl much and an injured Moeen. You could argue that the pitch was more suited to the Aussie quicks too. Our second innings batting should have been much better and can't help feeling we gave the Aussies too many chances and they're too good to keeping missing out on them. Credit to them and brilliant by Khawaja. Wood for Moeen, no other changes

Completely agree, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, I just don’t think they’ll make the necessary changes until it’s too late, which could be when they’ve lost at Lord’s and are two down.

Agree with that but think the pitch wasn’t suited to Anderson also his fielding was a bit sloppy for him usually he is one the best out there. Maybe he is not fully match fit, think he will play 1 or 2 more of the last 4 tests then hang his boots up..

Elsewhere Matt Parkinson is leaving Lancs for Kent at the end of the season :-(
Just saw that. Seems a strange decision, though perhaps not when one views his playing time at Lancashire. Kent could be sliding down into the second division unless they pull their finger out, and by a quirk of fate they host Lancashire in the final round. Maybe he’ll get a new lease of life down in Canterbury.
