I kept wicket for seven years and many a time I used to warn batsmen about wondering down the pitch. If, after a gentle warning went unheeded then in my eyes they were fair game. I would like to think Bairstow was warned by the Aussies but I don’t think he was given his total look of shock.
That would certainly be acceptable behaviour, as with the mankads described previously.
I agree that there wasn't a warning given.
I'm sure someone will see how many times batsmen clearly ground their bat or turn to the keeper for a nod, and how many they don't!
